Niels Eilersen Mid-Century IW3 Danish Rocking Chair – Illum Wikkelso, 1950s-60s

A fabulous compact mid-century "IW3" rocking chair of beech construction and in a black and natural wood finish. It was designed by Illum Wikkelso for Niels Eilersen of Denmark and it most likely dates from the 1960s. The chair was produced from the late 1950s onwards. The original maker's label can be found underneath the seat. It's a very attractive and striking design and is more compact and stylish than most rocking chairs, and very typical of Wikkelso design.

The seat of the chair has been re-painted black with a satin finish and waxed and shows some signs of wear. It could be re-painted/stripped if required. The rest of the chair is in original natural wood finish. The chair has signs of both age and use throughout - it's at least 50 years old and so it's to be expected that it should have superfical grazes, bumps and scrapes. The runners have at some stage had rubber protection applied to them. Some of the rubber remains in places but for the most part it has perished.

Vintage Leather Effect Wood and Board Desktop Paper or Letter Tray with Lid

Definitely vintage, possibly antique, but certainly only befitting of someone important with a desk to match their status. This large leather effect paper or letter tray has a leather effect finish and a burgundy lining to the base and the underside of the lid. The lid itself is sturdy and ensures no papers are allowed to escape the confines of the tray. It's a combination of wood and a kind of compressed paper board, whilst the knob on the lid is solid wood, so it's solid in construction and feels like it has some quality to it. It has signs of wear and age throughout, but that only adds to the charm and makes it more appealing in situ.

It measures 23.5cm (9¼ in.) across the front, 36cm (14¼ in.) from front to back, and has a height of 6cm (2½ in.).

Vintage Bentwood Desk “Pending” Paperwork Tray by Mallod c.1950s/1960s

A very nice-looking vintage desktop paperwork tray in bentwood, made by Mallod, and dating from the 1950s or 1960s. This one has a very pleasing appearance with original cosmetic wear from use and a suitably vintage-looking red Dymo label attached to one side reading "PENDING". It's been cleaned and given a subtle wax to make the most of it, but otherwise left as is. There are signs of use and wear and tear throughout and there's a small chip to the underside near the front. It's not noticeable in normal use and it seems to have occurred some time ago so unlikely to worsen.

The tray measures 26.5cm by 36.5cm by 5.5cm (10½ in. by 14¼in. by 2¼in.)

Vintage Quilt, Tapestry or Fabric Hangers “Hang Ups” in Light Ash

A set of six vintage "Hang Ups" wall hanging clamps or clips designed for displaying fabrics such as quilts, tapestries and other keepsakes. Made in the USA and believed to be ash wood. In good condition. Each "Hang Up" has a backplate which measures approximately 8cm (3¾ in.) by 4.5cm (1¾ in.) and has a brass nut for tightening the clamp section. Overall depth when fully clamped approximately 2.5cm (1 in.), excluding the nut.

Mid-Century Teak Magazine Rack by Fyne Ladye Furniture

Sometimes - and perhaps erroneously - attributed to Guy Rogers and sold by Heals Department store, this small teak magazine rack was more likely produced by Fyne Ladye Furniture of Banbury. It's a great little example of mid-century style and eminently usable. The teak structure comprises of two sub-divided compartments and the proportions and styling are very much in-keeping with Danish/modern influences.

The rack is in good used condition with some very small signs of wear and tear but generally very presentable indeed. It measures approximately 51cm (length) by 20cm (depth) by 35cm (height) (20 in. by 8 in. by 14 in.)

Small Atomic Style Side Table or Coffee Table with Magazine Shelf

An elegant small side table or coffee table with characteristic atomic style legs and a faux wood effect surface. The black covered metal legs feature white caps and the angles and slender lines add to the visual effect, whilst the magazine shelf and dimensions make for an eminently practical piece of furniture for a mid-Century style home.

The table measures approximately 75.5 cm (width) by 30cm (depth) by 43cm (height) - 29¾ in. by 12 in. by 17 in. - with the magazine shelf approximately 15cm (6 in.) from the floor. The table collapses flat to a height of about 10cm (4 in.), simply by removing the struts which attach the legs to the shelf, which then is separated from the rest of the table. It is not without a few minor cosmetic issues - notably some peeling of the plasticised wood effect surface on two of the corners, some general wear to the black surface covering of the legs, and some patches of discolouration to the faux wood surface (please review the photos) but these do not detract too significantly from the overall look of the piece.

Vintage Classic Style Wooden Desk Letter Rack or Desktop Organiser

A large classically styled wooden desk organiser or letter rack which is of no meagre proportions, the width measuring 39cm (15½ in.), the height 18cm (7 in.) and depth 10.5cm (4 in.), and with three useful compartments for storage of papers etc., each about 2.5cm (1 in.) in depth. It seems to be of a ply construction with possible oak veneer for the surface. It looks the part, with its curved compartment dividers and side pieces - a little bit Art Deco, if we may be so bold, although we cannot age the letter rack with any certainty.

This one has no chips or cracks, however, it does have some ink staining. It's character, we say, but if you want a pristine-looking item then you should give this item a miss. The ink staining is apparent to the right front corner and left hand side panel. We like it, we've made no attempt to remove it. It's a part of this item's history, so whilst we have cleaned and rejuvenated the wood more generally, we are happy to leave it otherwise.

A very nice-looking vintage desktop paperwork tray in bentwood, made by Mallod, and dating from the 1950s or 1960s. Ours has a very pleasing appearance with original cosmetic wear from use and a suitably vintage-looking red Dymo label attached to side reading "FOR ACTION". We have not restored the tray in any way except for a clean and a subtle wax. Expect there to be signs of use and wear and tear - we think it's all part of the character of this particular item.

Stylish Vintage Metal and Vinyl Bedroom or Vanity Chair in black, cream and green

Dating most likely from the 1950s or 1960s, this bedroom or vanity chair delivers a distinctly stylish look from the time - slender black metal legs and frame with a vinyl covered seat and over-sized curved backrest in a cream, black and green irregular striped pattern. The circular seat and rest are both completed with black piping and the slightly splayed legs are finished with elegant self-balancing feet.

The chair is in original unrestored visual condition, with ageing and wear to the vinyl (notably for some reason to the green stripes which are much subtler than they would have been) but we have refreshed the padding with new foam to the seat and backrest so that it is at least a lot more functional and comfortable than when it came to us! There is a small tear to the vinyl on the front side of the seat (pictured) which doesn't affect the look of the chair in any way and we don't think it will deteriorate further. The chair is structurally very solid, so if a purchaser would prefer to completely re-cover the chair, then it's on a firm foundation that they would be doing so.

Pair of 1950s Vinyl Covered Beech Framed Stools

A matching pair of original and unusually shaped low stools, probably intended for a kitchen, with beech frames dating from the 1950s. The seats are not square, instead tapering slightly from back to front and the legs extend to very pleasing ball feet. The stools have their original vinyl covers which are intact but which are not in the best state (see photo), with some paint marks and minor tear damage. Although we loved the original covers, we have treated the stools to a fresh Scandinavian-style design in olive green, blue and brown on a white background, but left the original covers underneath should the buyer wish to use them.

The stools have been carefully cleaned, sanded and waxed.
