Vintage 1970s Japanese Rhythm Alarm Clock in Light Mushroom Colour

With its elliptical face and curvaceous body, this Rhythm 2 Jewels Alarm clock presents a handsome slice of 1970s design. It would be going too far, perhaps, to call it space age, and also too far, perhaps, to call it minimalist, but it comes close on both counts. The clock face is a metallic bronze-purple colour depending on the angle of the light and there are no digits on it, just metallic pieces with orange detailing. There are flourescent sections to the hour and minute hands and a slim minute hand, as well as alarm time indicator. The clock is in working order and has a pleasant tick which is certainly audible (just in case you require or prefer a silent timepiece). Around the back of the clock are knobs to set the time and the alarm, as well as an adjuster for the accuracy of the clock, and a red push button which serves to activate or deactivate the alarm. The alarm itself is a good old-fashioned ringer which is effective.

The clock measures approximately 14.5 cm (5½ in.) at its widest point, with a height of around 12 cm (4¾ in.) and a depth of 7.5cm (3 in.). It's presented in mostly very good cosmetic condition - the chrome is nice and clean, the body is good aside from a small blemish on the left hand side (see photos), and there's a little bit of dust inside the face.

Vintage Purple Arthur Wood Hand Painted Piggy Bank (5272)

A pottery piggy bank, which dates from the 1970s and is unmistakeably an Arthur Wood piece, though no sticker is attached. The stylised floral design is hand painted in white and orange tones onto a deep plum/purple ground and the piece has the model number "5272" in gold to the base. Also on the base is the original plastic stopper.

The piggy bank measures approximately 22cm long, 12cm tall and 8.5cm wide. It's in good condition with just some surface grazes and minor wear from use, but no chips or cracks.

Vintsge 1970s Kiddicraft Wooden Tray Jigsaw Puzzle – Jungle

Vintage Mustard and Brushed Metal Adjustable Desk Lamp

A vintage desk lamp in brushed aluminium and enamelled mustard colour metal with a vertical stand and adjustable arm which is fixed to the vertical by way of a tensioning mechanism. The origins of this lamp might be Italy - there are similar lamps made by Prova, some with a flatter base and some with a deeper base, such as this one. We suspect it was made in the 1970s and probably sold through BHS or similar.

The condition of the lamp is generally good and it is working order. There are some superficial scratches to the metalwork as to be expected of an item of this age and use, but the overall cosmetic state is good.The shade has, importantly, retained a good shape. Most likely, the base would originally have had a plastic cover, but this one does not have one.

Space Age 1970s “Dice” Lampshade by Uffe Gustav Schiøler for Hoyrup Denmark/IKEA

A lampshade which has a pedigree surpassing its unprepossessing looks, this is the "Dice" Lampshade designed by Uffe Gustav Schiøler for Hoyrup of Denmark and then acquired and later sold by IKEA. A 19cm rounded cube of plastic with circular semi-opaque panels which protrude slightly. This one is in a suitably 1970s shade of orange and is the pendant shade variation - there were desk / table lamp versions as well.

There are some minor aspects of the condition which should be noted, principally that the top curved white panel with the ring for the bulb holder is not as even as it might be. It's secure but has deformed, and although it would most likely be out of sight in normal use, the potential buyer should be aware of it. Also to the top is a hairline crack to the orange plastic - it doesn't feel like it's a worry structurally and there's no sense of becoming worse. Again, it is not noticeable in ordinary use.

The "spider" ring (for fitting the bulb holder) is not original but is a good fit for the lamp. Otherwise, the lamp is in good shape with only minor superficial surface scratches as to be expected of an item of some age.

Please note, the sale is for the shade and spider ring only. No wiring or buibholder is supplied.

Small Brushed Aluminium Clamp Lamp by Maclamp 1970s

A small clamping desk lamp with brushed aluminium finish typical of the 1970s. This one was made by Maclamp and was probably sold via Habitat originally. It features very clean lines and an attractive shape. The contrasting black plastic tubing and plastic clamp fitting add to the look, and allows the lamp to be attached to a horizontal surface such as a shelf or desk or to a vertical surface such as a wall unit and then positioned accordingly.
Despite its small dimensions it makes a bigger design statement with those sleek, shiny looks.

The lamp measures approximately 30cm in height overall, the shade measures 15cm from front to back with a rim diameter of 12 cm, and the flexible nexk measuring approximately 20cm in length.

This one is in good condition - not without some small signs of both age and use to the metalwork - and in working order, though as with all electrical items it should be safety-checked prior to use in its destination environment.

1970s Orange and White Circular Plastic Desk Tidy / Pen Holder

Who doesn't like a desk tidy? We certainly like them, and this one is a nice example of the sort, made in Hong Kong and dating from the 1970s. It's a circular plastic tidy which has a diameter of about 13cm and a height of 5.5cm, with four compartments in the body which pull out on single hinges, four tray sections on top, and a central pen holder. Typically orange and white colours (though the white is somewhat cream now), this makes a pleasing addition to a desktop. Please note, pens, pencils, rubber bands, etc., pictured are not included.

Avocado Green Copal Model 515 Portable Digi-Glo Rolling Clock

It's understandable if you're under the impression that it was only soft furnishings and bathroom suites which were avocado colour in the 1970s, but this cycling clock (rather like a flip clock but the numbers roll rather than flip as time passes) is proof to the contrary (see also). Made by Copal of Japan this is - unusually - marketed as a "portable" battery-powered device. A single "D" size battery provides the juice. The display has a glow option (activated by depressing the button on top of the unit) and the clock also has an alarm function (the alarm is activated via the button at the back). The clock emits a ticking sound and the rolling of the numbers is not silent, if noise is a concern for you.

This one is in full working order and comes complete with its original box (in relatively good condition) and instructions, which is also unusual. Condition-wise it is excellent with only extremely minor signs of age and use. The only cosmetic issue being some rusting to the underside of the metal battery cover. The actual battery compartment is in good order.

A rare opportunity to purchase a very uncommon item in great condition. Offers are welcomed.

Small White Gooseneck Desk Lamp by Maclamp for Habitat – 1970s

A very cool looking small desk lamp made by Maclamp (designed by Terence Conran most likely) in a rather space-age style with a mostly white finish - the shade being metal and the base having a plastic cover - and a black gooseneck. The lamp has an unusual button position and style too, and it has a very minimalist aesthetic overall - clean lines, no fuss.

This one is in good working order and in generally good condition except for some small scratches to the shade and some minor surface losses to the rim of the shade and to the back of it. The base is in good shape aside from a couple of grazes to the plastic, and there is little in the way of discoloration which is always good. All in all, it's a good-looking lamp with understated appeal.

The lamp measures approximately 38 cm (15 in.) in height when the neck is fully extended. The base has a diameter of about 13cm (5¼ in.) and the black gooseneck section is 24cm (9½ in.) in length. The cable (UK plug) is approximately 180cm (71 in.) in length. The lamp holder takes a large bayonet bulb.

Vintage Chrome and Black Targetti Sankey Gooseneck Desk Lamp, made in Italy

A super cool looking chrome and black gooseneck desk lamp, believed to be made in Italy by Targetti Sankey and dating we think from the 1970s. With its contrasting chrome and black design and ball shaped shade with distinctively shaped "venting" it's a definite eye catcher, whether switched on or not. It is also built with impressive quality and attention to detail. For example, instead of a standard rubber or plastic gooseneck tube, this lamp has a rubberised section to the neck which is then enclosed within a spring-like coil of metal, making what would otherwise simply be a functional aspect of the lanmp into an interesting feature. It points also to a high attention to the design and manufacture of the lamp.

The lamp does have a defect - there's a dent to the shade, an almost flat spot where it has had an impact of some kind - and although it is a shame, it does not detract too much from the look of the lamp and is not in an immediately obvious location. The high reflectivity of the chrome shape also helps to distract. The base is composed of a black enamelled cast metal with a plastic underside and has a white, solid feeling swtich.
Otherwise, the lamp is in good condition, with only minor signs of age and wear. It measures approximately 48cm (19 in.) in height with the gooseneck fully extended, of which 18cm (7 in.) is the rubberised gooseneck portion. The base has an approximate diameter of 15cm (6 in.) and a depth of 3.5cm (1½ in.). The ball shade has an opening of 11cm (4¼ in.) and an overall diameter of approximately 14cm (5½ in.). It takes a standard bayonet bulb ftting.
