Vintage signage from an academic building, a college or university which reads "MAIN LECTURE THEATRE" in white Sans Serif lettering on a black ground. The sign is made of a clear plastic/acrylic with a re-painted black rear face with a hole at either end for affixing to a wall. A nice piece of institutional signage which would make a quirky gift or would simply help direct people to the place in your home where the lectures usually take place! ;)

The sign measures 38cm x 5cm (15 in. x 2 in.) and is in good overall condition. There is a small imperfection to one edge under the "M" of "MAIN" but this is not noticeable without close inspection.

Although better known for their production of the George Cawardine designed Anglepoise, Herbert Terry also produced a variety of other lamps and lighting products. Alongside conventional gooseneck lamps, they manufactured more idiosyncratic lamps epitomised by the 2000 Series. Comprising the "Symbal" floor lamp and the "Cyclops", "Qube" and "Zebedee" desk or shelf lamps this range was futuristic in look and in construction, but also very much of its time too.

Our "Cyclops" desk or shelf lamp is a variant on the eyeball lamp of the era, with the orange spherical enamelled metal shade section housed inside a square smoked acrylic box. The shade rotates on a central axis lockable via the two side nuts. The colour and shape combinations of the semi-transparent housing and the shade makes this lamp as interesting when switched off as it is when illuminated. The lamp features an original inline switch.

In good condition with only very minor signs of wear and age this lamp is increasingly uncommon and highly desirable for a mid-century inspired environment.
