Vintage 1970s Japanese Rhythm Alarm Clock in Light Mushroom Colour

With its elliptical face and curvaceous body, this Rhythm 2 Jewels Alarm clock presents a handsome slice of 1970s design. It would be going too far, perhaps, to call it space age, and also too far, perhaps, to call it minimalist, but it comes close on both counts. The clock face is a metallic bronze-purple colour depending on the angle of the light and there are no digits on it, just metallic pieces with orange detailing. There are flourescent sections to the hour and minute hands and a slim minute hand, as well as alarm time indicator. The clock is in working order and has a pleasant tick which is certainly audible (just in case you require or prefer a silent timepiece). Around the back of the clock are knobs to set the time and the alarm, as well as an adjuster for the accuracy of the clock, and a red push button which serves to activate or deactivate the alarm. The alarm itself is a good old-fashioned ringer which is effective.

The clock measures approximately 14.5 cm (5½ in.) at its widest point, with a height of around 12 cm (4¾ in.) and a depth of 7.5cm (3 in.). It's presented in mostly very good cosmetic condition - the chrome is nice and clean, the body is good aside from a small blemish on the left hand side (see photos), and there's a little bit of dust inside the face.

Philips HR 5284 Small Electric Alarm Clock Made in West Germany

A rare electic alarm clock with analogue display delivered in a glossy black body with full front bezel. This is a model Hr 5284 made by Philips in West Germany, which was available in red/orange and grey/black colours schemes. It's a small unit, measuring just 12cm across the front, with a height of 7cm and a depth of 6cm, with the only departure from the smooth lines and surfaces being the alarm control button on the top of the body. The seconds hand is of the silent sweep variety and the face has fluorescent indicators. Time and alarm time setting is achieved via the adjuster at the rear of the body, which performs both roles with a push/pull mechanism. Please note, the alarm is a "buzzer" style and is relatively subdued. A service might improve this (i.e. make it louder), of course.

In good working condition with just a few minor surface blemishes/grazes to be expected of an item of this age and use.

Estyma Jumbo LED Digital Alarm Clock E-801

The Big Time. This is an Estyma E-801 digital alarm clock which was badged as a "Micronta" in some regions and sold through Radio Shack. It's a large and uncompromising slab of silvery-grey plastic with black contrasting sections typical of the 1980s. The bulk of the front is dominated by the LED display - the digits themselves are about 4.5 cm tall. The slim top surface has buttons for snooze, display brightness, alarm on/off and time and alarm time settings - button and switch controls in the same silvery-grey against a black recessed area.

In good overall condition, aside from some minor wear to the top edge of the front panel and some scratches to the front display. It is in good working order. Please note, the alarm on this is quite loud and rather disturbing - perfect if you're a heavy sleeper though! ;)
The unit measures approximately 23 cm across the front, has a depth of 7cm and a height of 11cm.

Vintage Westclox Electric Alarm Clock with Buzzer and Flashing Light

Very much of its time, this Westclox alarm clock, made in Scotland, has a brushed metal effect clock face with blue and light green detailing, red sweep hand, a lamp which flashes alongside the buzzer alarm, and is housed in a cream/white rectangular plastic body (it may have been white originally but it has aged slightly to a cream tone). It is mains powered. The alarm functions perfectly and is set using the dial on the rear of the body, where the dial to set the time is also located. The buzzer is extremely effective as a waker-upper - in other words, it's loud. The lamp flashes at the same time meaning you've absolutely no excuses for missing your wake up call! The alarm is deactivated on a temporary basis by pushing the button down on top of the unit and disabled more permanently by sliding the button slightly forwards when depressed, to latch it in place.

In good condition, with only minor signs of wear and age to the plastic body, and fully functional.

A really nice-looking and effective alarm clock which hopefully will find a suitably retro environment in which to wake up the inhabitants!

Vintage Woodgrain Copal Model 229 Flip Clock Alarm with Day Display

A very desirable Copal Model 229 Flip Clock with Alarm and day display, made in Japan and dating from the 1970s. In good working condition with a "buzzer" alarm and woodgrain plastic casing with no cracks to the display and with all knobs and dials intact. In common with most Japanese flip clocks, this uses the 24-hour format for time display and alarm setting.

In very good cosmetic condition with only minimal signs of age and use. Functionally, the alarm and clock work as they should, though as with many of these clocks of the period there are occasions when the hour number doesn't flip immediately on the hour but rights itself after a few minutes. The unit measures approximately 18cm by 9cm by 9cm when in use and is supplied with a UK three-pin style plug. We recommend customers perform their own PAT tests on electrical appliances before use.

Copal Model 702 Flip Alarm Clock in Pale Gold Aluminium

A rather chic and glamorous-looking Copal model 702 flip clock with pale gold coloured aluminium body and plastic sides. The clock has a slightly retro-looking black on white numeral display and a green light to indicate the activation of the alarm which illuminates the rolling alarm time display. That in itself is an unusual feature of this particular model. Cosmetically, this one is a good example of the model and it works flawlessly - the digits flip easily, the motor runs smoothly, and the alarm functions as it should.

The clock measures approximately 18cm (7 in.) wide, with a height of 8.5cm (3½ in.) and a depth of 11cm (4½ in.) and runs off a 50Hz AC power supply in the range of 180-260V and it is currently fitted with a standard UK three-pin plug.

1950s-60s Funky Shaped Red Metamec Alarm Clock with Pearlescent Face

A funky-shaped red (with a hint of orange to it) wind-up alarm clock made by Metamec and dating from the 1950s-1960s. The angular body with a basically irregular octagon shape sits squat on two angular feet with a softened rear to it. The body houses a pearlescent white face with gold coloured hands and numerals behind clear plastic, with a slender white alarm button on top.

In good, working condition, the clock measures approximately 14cm wide by 10cm high by 6.5cm deep (5½ in. by 4 in. by 2½ in.). The plastic face cover has just the one small blemish to it, but is otherwise clean and clear.

Copal Model 229 Wood Effect Flip Clock Alarm Made In Japan

A very desirable Copal Model 229 Flip Clock with Alarm and day display, made in Japan and dating from the 1970s. In good working condition with a "buzzer" alarm and presented in a faux wood effect plastic casing with no cracks to the display and with all knobs and dials intact. As seen on the "Mad Men" television series, no less!

There are cosmetic issues from use, namely wear to the wood effect which reveals an orange plastic underneath. Functionally, the alarm and clock work as they should, though as with many of these clocks of the period there are occasions when the hour number doesn't flip immediately on the hour but rights itself after a few minutes. It should also be noted that on this particular item, the day display seems to switch over to the next day shortly after midnight rather than exactly on midnight and sometimes with a bit of a "clunk".

Notwithstanding these matters, the flip clock works very smoothly and quietly and certainly looks great on a shelf or bedside.

The clock measures approximately 18cm by 9cm by 9cm when in use and is supplied with a UK three-pin style plug. We recommend customers perform their own PAT tests on electrical appliances before use.
