The seat of the chair has been re-painted black with a satin finish and waxed and shows some signs of wear. It could be re-painted/stripped if required. The rest of the chair is in original natural wood finish. The chair has signs of both age and use throughout - it's at least 50 years old and so it's to be expected that it should have superfical grazes, bumps and scrapes. The runners have at some stage had rubber protection applied to them. Some of the rubber remains in places but for the most part it has perished.

The chair is in original unrestored visual condition, with ageing and wear to the vinyl (notably for some reason to the green stripes which are much subtler than they would have been) but we have refreshed the padding with new foam to the seat and backrest so that it is at least a lot more functional and comfortable than when it came to us!  There is a small tear to the vinyl on the front side of the seat (pictured) which doesn't affect the look of the chair in any way and we don't think it will deteriorate further.  The chair is structurally very solid, so if a purchaser would prefer to completely re-cover the chair, then it's on a firm foundation that they would be doing so.

We cannot, as is often the case, be absolutely sure of the age of this furniture - it may be Edwardian or a later copy. Having said that, this Glastonbury chair appears to be of aged condition, with wear and tear to be expected with an item of some age.  In this case, the wear and tear and ageing of the wood only adds to its look. Even if considered to be a reproduction then this chair should still have substantial (pun intended!) appeal.

Luterma were globally renowned for their expertise in moulding plywood (they made boxes, suitcases and even bags from plywood) and this chair is an excellent example of their work in very good condition. There is, as you might expect from a chair this old, some wear to the seat but the embossed design is very much visible and intact (unlike some you might see).

The skillfully crafted frame (it has some wonderful transitions from straight to curved facets) has had some cosmetic incarnations in its lifetime in the form of re-staining, but is in good condition too. We have done nothing but a gentle clean in terms of restoration so as to retain the undoubted character that this chair has. It's a great item, fully-functional if you want to sit on it, and definitely an unusual addition to any home or commercial environment. We love it and are pleased to be able to offer it to you.
