A large - 28 cm / 11 in. tall - vase made by Lotus Studio Pottery of Stoke Gabriel in Devon. More famous for their stylised bulls, this vase also features the trademark dark sage colour and speckled blue-grey tone of their work in the 1970s, but with a leaf or petal design, almost fern-like, running vertically from the base. The vase is ribbed horizontally and has a slender pinch about two-thirds down from the rim. These aspects and the glaze provides much play of light on the surface.

A great piece for the collector of Lotus pottery the vase in execllent condition with no discernible defects. The piece is stamped to the base with the Lotus Pottery mark.

A very impressive and well-executed oil painting which we believe dates from the early 1970s. Our research reveals that the artist K. S. White (Kay White) was active and painted other scenes around this time. Regardless of its origins, we simply like this painting of Gara Rock in Devon with its sensitive colour palette and very dextrous paint handling and textures. This really is a good quality artwork by a clearly very capable artist.

The painting is on Fine Grain 18 in. x 14 in. inch Daler Board (the nature of which also provides a good indication of the date) and is in good, clean condition. The colours are good and there is no damage to the board or the frame. The painting is signed at the bottom right "Kay White" and the rear of the board reads "K. S. White Gara Rock"

This large cup or mug was made by Crown Devon Fieldings of Stoke on Trent (stamp present on the underneath of the cup) and features the Sailor's Farewell motto. One side of the piece is printed with the words "SAILORS, FAREWELL / Sweet, oh Sweet is that sensation / Where two hearts in union meet; / But the pain of separation, / Mingles bitter with the sweet." The other side reads "Far from Home across the Sea / To Foreign climes I go. / While far away O think on me, / And I'll remember you." Similar items date from the Edwardian/early 20th Century and we've no reason to think this one is different - the maker's stamp is indicative of a piece made in that time period.

The cup is handpainted over a basic pink lustre ground and shows a scene of a sailor leaving his wife and children to go to sea. In good condition throughout with no chips or cracks, although there is some crazing to the glaze, which is not uncommon for china of this age and there is a slight linear depression in the glaze underneath the verse (see photos). Otherwise, you'd have to say this is in very good shape.
