A vintage flip clock radio made by PrinzSound, specifically the SDC18 which boasts some quality features inside a very masculine and large frame. It's stylish in a late 70s kind of way - wood effect, metallic grey panelling and black detals throughout and lots of shiny "chrome" controls. The unit has a decent tuner which picks stations up nicely, is true stereo (a light in the front indicates radio broadcasts in stereo) and it produces a good rounded sound from the twin speakers on either side of the body. Rather unusually, the SDC18 has an auxiliary input for incoming audio, making this quite a useful modern-day appliance for use with phone, MP3 player or even with a wireless audio adapter.

These features are on top of the more standard things you'd expect - radio or buzzer alarm, snooze and sleep controls and so on.

The flip clock mechanism works flawlessly and although the illumination is not what it would have been when new, it's usable. The tuning and volume controls are a little bit crackly but not bad at all. The unit is in very good condition with no chips or cracks to the body. There are some minor dents to the top surface near the "snooze" button and a few minor scratches and grazes and signs of wear throughout, but nothing very distracting or noticeable. All in all, a very uncommon item - and very bold aesthetically - which stands the test of time, particularly because of the AUX IN option it provides and the quality sound it outputs.

The unit measures approximately 37.5cm (14¾ in.) across the front, 18cm (7 in.) from front to back and 13cm (5 in.) in height. All measurements include any protruding knobs or controls. Please get in touch if you require specific measurements.

Perhaps not the most stylish of the Panasonic flip clocks or flip clock radios, but nonetheless having a look all of its own, this is the RC-6003B model which dates from the mid-1970s. Presented in a white plastic body with the major part of the front in black, the most immediate aesthetic novelty is the contrasting appearance of the sides: the left hand side of the body nearest to the clock display is given a generous curved shape (which is reflected in the shape of the display) whilst the right hand side is slightly scooped out and juts forward and is abruptly squared off. It's different...

The unit has all of the basic features one would hope for: a good clear display and sound, a two-band (AM/FM) radio, sleep mode, etc. This one is fully functional and is in good cosmetic condition considering it's over 45 years old now. Also included with this unit is the original instruction manual. The RC-6003B measures approximately 28cm by 10cm by 15cm (11 in. x 4 in. x 6 in.) and is fitted with a UK three-pin wall plug.

A very desirable Copal Model 229 Flip Clock with Alarm and day display, made in Japan and dating from the 1970s. In good working condition with a "buzzer" alarm and woodgrain plastic casing with no cracks to the display and with all knobs and dials intact. In common with most Japanese flip clocks, this uses the 24-hour format for time display and alarm setting.

In very good cosmetic condition with only minimal signs of age and use. Functionally, the alarm and clock work as they should, though as with many of these clocks of the period there are occasions when the hour number doesn't flip immediately on the hour but rights itself after a few minutes. The unit measures approximately 18cm by 9cm by 9cm when in use and is supplied with a UK three-pin style plug. We recommend customers perform their own PAT tests on electrical appliances before use.

It's all about the looks with this vintage flip clock radio/alarm. It's not one of the big brand manufactures - Copal or Sony or Toshiba or Panasonic, for example - but it does have an aesthetic appeal all of its own. The white (now somewhat cream in colour) casing with a dominating tinted front panel and subtle curves has more than a hint of space-age design to it. The curved plinth-like base, the subtlely curved front, and somewhat minimal black buttons and controls add to this overall sensibility. The monolithic sleek front is the headline, though - even the maker's branding is subservient to it, almost an after-thought and certainly not allowed to detract. It's a good-looking item from a relatively uncommon maker, and it has all the features and functions that one would hope for: dual band radio, sleep mode (up to 60 minutes), and wake to buzzer or radio.

In good condition, notwithstanding the discolouration, and in fully working condition. Reasonable offers welcomed on this item.

One of the most stylish and instantly recognisable flip clocks, this is the Toshiba RC-803F. With more than a hint of space-age design, this flip clock probably doesn't need too many words of description - the photos will do most of the talking! But, let's start with that shape - a sloping front dominated by a full face display with massively rounded corners, with the curves leading into a flattened pill shape with distinctive and almost over-sized silver coloured knobs on either side for clock/alarm adjustment and radio tuning. Also on the front are controls for tone, volume, mode and radio band, leaving only the sleep control in a recessed hollow on the top of the unit. The rest of the top is dominated by the aforementioned curves and the speaker grille. It's a bold design and it works beautifully.

In very good cosmetic condition and fully working. Sensible offers are invited for this highly sought after - and perhaps now worthy of the term "iconic" - item.

One of the smaller variants made by the Japanese company Copal, this model 227 flip clock is a perfect bedside companion. This particular item, in a classic orange, is presented in excellent working and aesthetic order. The flip clock is the 24-hour model with buzzer alarm (activated by the button to the back right of the unit) and it measures a rather diminutive 15cm (6 in.) by 9cm (3½ in.) by 7cm (2¾ in.) - in terms of width, depth, and height respectively. This one is almost silent in operaton, with only very gentle motor noise and pleasing "flipping" sound, and it also has a good, clear display and illumination.

The flip clock runs at 180-260V and has a cable of approximately 1.8m (70 in.) and is currently fitted with a UK three-pin plug. The casing is in very good condition with no chips or cracks, and only minor superficial signs of use with the odd graze to the plastics to note.

An unusual flip clock with AM/FM radio in a desktop-style made by Auritone. Unlike most flip clock radios, this Auritone flipclock radio does not feature a vertical front panel to display the time and radio tuner, instead these are on top of the unit with the numerals to the rear and at an angle to enable viewing. It's an interesting layout: the tuner and tuner dial are both on the horizontal "top" surface with radio, alarm and volume controls, whilst the clock-related controls are housed alongside the clock in a relatively standard way. The whole unit, as a result, is wedge shaped with angled sides. Finished in a black plastic with textured detailing, you'll probably either love it or loathe it...!

The unit functions as it should with the radio surprisingly good. There are signs of wear and tear throughout, but no chips or cracks to the plastics. The labels for the controls are almost completely worn away, but they are simple enough. The slider controls the volume, the large circular knob is the radio tuning control, whilst the switches are (from left to right), the radio on/off/auto control and the tuner band (AM or FM) control. The time display window has some grazing to the plastics and is slightly "foggy" but this doesn't affect the viewing of the time.

A rather chic and glamorous-looking Copal model 702 flip clock with pale gold coloured aluminium body and plastic sides. The clock has a slightly retro-looking black on white numeral display and a green light to indicate the activation of the alarm which illuminates the rolling alarm time display. That in itself is an unusual feature of this particular model. Cosmetically, this one is a good example of the model and it works flawlessly - the digits flip easily, the motor runs smoothly, and the alarm functions as it should.

The clock measures approximately 18cm (7 in.) wide, with a height of 8.5cm (3½ in.) and a depth of 11cm (4½ in.) and runs off a 50Hz AC power supply in the range of 180-260V and it is currently fitted with a standard UK three-pin plug.

A slice of mid-1970s Japanese tech, with looks to accompany the Toyota Celica and Datsun 260Z cars of the same era. Finished in a fetching red, it's unashamed in its aesthetics, with bold black front panel with silver detailing and a sloping section upon which several sliding controls (volume/band/radio function) and the "Sanyo" branding appears.

Technically, the RM5430 is an AM/FM radio with alarm (buzzer or radio), sleep mode (up to 3 hours, no less!) and alarm snooze ("auto repeat" as it's termed here) and a flip clock, and it runs from a 240V-rated power supply. To the rear of the unit is the reason for the "stereocast" label - the ability to output to stereo speakers instead of the on-board mono speaker. And alongside that a headphone socket.

The unit is in full working order and good cosmetic condition, with no cracks to the plastic body and only minor signs of age and use (superficial grazes or scratches and a couple of very small "dings" to edges). The silver detailing around the knobs on the front panel has worn slightly away in places from use and there is some wear around the branding badge but otherwise it's in good visual shape, considering its age.
