A very handsome Metamec mantle or desk clock, with a very modernist style which would not look out of place in any mid-century inspired interior. With its ridged metal surround, simple silver-coloured face with Roman Numerals, and black accents, this clock certainly is an unfussy and stylish timepiece.

In very good cosmetic condition and fully working, the clock takes a "C"-size battery. It has a ticking second hand, but not a load or unpleasant ticking sound by any means.

The base measures 8cm by 5cm, with an overall height of 16.5cm and depth of 5.5cm. The face diameter is approximately 15cm.

A rare electic alarm clock with analogue display delivered in a glossy black body with full front bezel. This is a model Hr 5284 made by Philips in West Germany, which was available in red/orange and grey/black colours schemes. It's a small unit, measuring just 12cm across the front, with a height of 7cm and a depth of 6cm, with the only departure from the smooth lines and surfaces being the alarm control button on the top of the body. The seconds hand is of the silent sweep variety and the face has fluorescent indicators. Time and alarm time setting is achieved via the adjuster at the rear of the body, which performs both roles with a push/pull mechanism. Please note, the alarm is a "buzzer" style and is relatively subdued. A service might improve this (i.e. make it louder), of course.

In good working condition with just a few minor surface blemishes/grazes to be expected of an item of this age and use.

Imported by Thousand And One Lamps with their sticker still on the underside of the base, this is the Norwegian-made Luxo L-11 desk or wall lamp which was designed by Jac Jacobsen in the late 1950s. It's one of the most distinctive lamps from the time and could be argued to be a design classic. It's main features are the oversized power button on the circular base, a fixed arm which has a thicker lower section, in a dark grey colour, and a diminutive and elegantly shaped shade which is freely adjustable.

This one is in an off-white colour, a very light grey with a hint of mushroom and it's a good example. There is some minor wear to the shade and some minor losses to the arm, but otherwise it's in good condition and working. The lamp can be used both on a desk or table top or wall mounted, with the latter bringing that large button and fixed arm into their own.

The lamp has a base with a diameter of approximately 14cm and a depth of 4cm whilst the lamp itself has a total height of approximately 33cm (with the shade positioned parallel to the lower part of the arm). The lampbolder takes a standard bayonet style bulb.

A super stylish modern trio in the "Woodmist" design by Wade which has a classic combination of black, grey and orange and abstracted floral pattern which just shouts its origins in the 1950s. In excellent condition and a hard-to-find combination these days, this trio of cup, saucer and sideplate just evokes the era superbly.

For reference, the sideplate is approximately 15cm (6 in.) in diameter. No chips or cracks, just some minor crazing as to be expected of items of this age.

A rare and unusual lamp - the Super Mini - made by Concord / Rotaflex, which has a few distinctive features which make it stand out from the crowd. First, is a plastic shade which is half ball-shape but planed off on two sides. Second, is the very straight and slender armature. Third, and most unusual of all, is the cube base which freely rotates within a mount (the cube also houses an internal transformer, incidentally). This means that the Super Mini can be used on a bedside table or a desk, can be mounted to the wall, or can even be attached to the ceiling. This was its selling point at the time - the flexibility of that mounting fixture when combined with the base.We believe that this lamp dates from the 1970s.

The lamp measures approximately 40cm in height. with the base being approximately 8cm by 9cm.
This one is in good working condition with a caveat. The plastic fixture which attaches the shade to the armature has been re-glued. It feels sound and works as it should, but it should be pointed out that there has been a repair. Ultimately perhaps a new plastic part might be needed. Otherwise, there are minor superficial grazes to the plastics as to be expected from an item of this age and use.

More famous, undoubtedly, for his work with Bang & Olufsen, this is the "Digitel 2000" telephone which Jacob Jensen designed in the 1970s for Kirk AS of Horsens, Denmark. More specifically this model is the DK8700, a slightly later version which nevertheless retains the styling of the original, the most notable features of which are the curved sloping body and mirrored handset shape, its two-tone colour scheme, and very ergonomic design. It doesn't just look great, however. There are some innovative and interesting features contained within that sleek exterior: a handset-based volume control, a hands-free speaker and microphone option set in action by a sensor in the handset, and even the choice of one of four ringtones. Also of note, are the lettered buttons ("A" to "D") which were intended to serve functionally as option/menu selectors, but ultimately these were never truly implemented in telephone systems.

This particular model, supplied to BT in the UK, dates from the 1980s and is a vivid orange colour with contrasting grey tone. It's in good shape with original labelling identifying its use at the Port of Dover. It's a great display piece, of course, but this one seems to be fully working as well - tested on a landline a dial tone is present and it appears to work as intended. Cosmetically it's very good bar a very small loss of plastic to the bottom right hand corner, but it's not noticeable in ordinary use. There are, as to be expected, signs of use throughout but only superficial ones.

A very attractive and rare 1950s vase made by Scheurich. The exterior features a grey speckled ground, incised stripes in blue, red, and yellow, and a three-sided, slightly irregular, form which is a great example typical of the era. The interior is a contrasing white. Measuring approximately 20cm (8 in.) in height, the vase has a truncated sloping rim, and contrasting hand-decorated wavy gold lines within flat black stripes to complete the look. The makers mark is worn and not readily discernible but we have identified it as a product of Scheurich.

The vase is in very good condition with no chips or cracks - and it would make a stunning addition to a mid-century home or as a statement piece in a more modern environment.

Graphite Grey? Check.
Plastic? Check.
Red LED Display? Check.
Weird Shape? Check.
1980s? Most definitely.

This Grundig ESC20 digital clock radio has all the hallmarks of its time and a few tricks too. Not only a standard digital alarm clock radio with all the features you might expect, but also multiple alarms (alarm 1, alarm 2, and both alarm 1 and alarm 2), a calendar function. It's also unusual in that the current alarm is displayed for convenience - no need to guess or press anything to find out when it's going to go off next. Aside from that, the design is pure 80s - a big and clear red LED display housed inside a triangular wedge of a body which is a dark graphite grey colour with a subtle metallic finish. The tuning and volume knobs are prominent on one side and there is a ribbed effect to the plastic on this side and similarly on the opposite side and around the back of the casing.

The unit uses a PP3 battery as a clock back up and this is housed in a compartment to the rear underneath. The battery compartment cover is missing on this particular unit, but it doesn't affect it. Also missing is an instruction manual but it's easy to figure out. A sliding mode selector is on the front of the unit and that determines the functions of the buttons on the extreme left of the main panel display. Alarm selection is also managed on the front of the unit. On the left hand side of the unit is a small sliding selector for display brightness. On the right hand side of the unit are the previously mentioned tuning and volume adjustment knobs and below them a switch for the radio band (FM or MW)

In very good condition and fully functional. There is some minor surface grazing to the top of the unit where the snooze button resides. The unit measures approximately 19 cm (7½ in.) across the front, with a height and depth of approximately 11.5 cm (4½ in.) and 14.5 cm (6 in.) respectively.

This is the "Lampette" by Eichhoff-Werke, a small telescopic desk lamp. This one is in unused condition - the cabling which fits into the lower part of the lamp still has a paper band around it and appears never to have been removed from that location, and the shade still has the original corrugated cardboard protector inside it. In addition, the original small brochure of instructions is present, as is the small metal plate for wall mounting, polystyrene packing material and a somewhat battered and slightly damaged box. It's not often you'd find a lamp of this age in an unused state.

The diminutive form of the "Lampette" resembles a two-part truncated cone when opened - with the shade appearing to match the top of the base - whilst in reality the shade fits to the bottom of the base when closed, with the arm rotating around the upturned base rather than collapsing into the top as is often the case with telescopic lamps.

The body of the lamp is a light grey/silver tone with the interior of the shade finished in white, with chromed metal and silver tone detailing. The lamp has two intensity settings for flexible illumination and the arm on which the shade sits extends from a lowly 13cm (5¼ in.) to 40cm (15¾ in.) and rotates through 360 degrees. The shade is hinged where it meets the arm allowing for further flexibilty, allowing the shade to be positioned downwards almost at the perpendicular to almost vertically upwards. To get an idea of how it looks in use, please refer to this page for a previously stocked Lampette.

The base has a diameter of 8cm (3¼ in.) and a height of 9cm (3½ in.) and the shade measures approximately 7cm (2¾ in.) in length with an opening of 5cm (2 in.). In its most compact form the entire lamp measures therefore about 15cm (6 in.) in length. The lamp is rated to a 220V power supply and takes a 6V 25W bulb, a dimmable motoring bulb style (small bayonet) fit, and it is currently wired to a continental two pin plug (but has been successfully used with a three pin adapter). In very good overall cosmetic condition, bar some minor storage wear and very sound mechanically.
