Vintage Purple Arthur Wood Hand Painted Piggy Bank (5272)

A pottery piggy bank, which dates from the 1970s and is unmistakeably an Arthur Wood piece, though no sticker is attached. The stylised floral design is hand painted in white and orange tones onto a deep plum/purple ground and the piece has the model number "5272" in gold to the base. Also on the base is the original plastic stopper.

The piggy bank measures approximately 22cm long, 12cm tall and 8.5cm wide. It's in good condition with just some surface grazes and minor wear from use, but no chips or cracks.

1950s Handpainted Colourful Stripes Flattened Oval Vase

If an object can be granted human characteristics, then this vase is cheerful and a little bit eccentric. Believed to date from the 1950s, this hand-painted vase not only has colourful stripes to bring some cheer but also a dotted pattern within the stripes and black dashed line work around them and also around the rim to accentuate the positive (sorry). It's a semi-shouldered vase, with a gently curving shape and a flattened oval form which descends to a circular base. It's possibly Italian - there is a very indistinct stamp to the base which is not legible - and that would certainly be appropriate. Everyone who has seen this vase has loved it for its quirkiness.

In good condition with no chips or cracks to the exerior, but some age discolouration to the interior, the vase stands approximately 15 cm (6 in.) high on a base with a diameter of 5cm (2 in). The oval rim of the vase measures approximately 9cm (3½ in.) by 5cm (2 in.), with the curved "shoulders" extending outwards by about 2cm (¾ in.) and 1cm (3/8 in.) at the vase's narrowest and widest respectively.

Handcarved Coconut Flower Design Oval Plaque

A quite kitsch but well made oval wall plaque with carved multi-toned wood design which we believe is coconut, depicting stylised flowers and vase, complete with hanging string. The background of the plaque is made of a lighter sacking style fabric and the flowers have handpainted detailing. It is a good example of folk art using some rather unusual materials.

The plaque measures approximately 30 cm by 20 cm ( 12 in. by 8 in.) and is in very good vintage condition.

Pair of Vintage Handpainted Kokeshi Dolls with Poseable Heads

This pair of unusual vintage handpainted Japanese Kokeshi dolls have distinctive sugegasa hats (aka "coolie" hats), charming "bobbling" heads and decorative kimono costumes. The heads are poseable via a small dowel in their "necks" which allows for some movement to create a sense of expression. There is some minor wear to the paint whch is consistent with their age but there are no significant dings or scratches to either doll.

The Kokeshi dolls measures approximately 7.5cm (2¾ in.) tall.

The larger of the pair of Kokeshi dolls measures approximately 7.5cm (2¾ in.) tall, with the smaller one measuring approximately 6cm (2½ in.) tall.

Vintage Naive Painted Oak Panel Picture

This vintage oak panel originated from a now disused church and features a charmingly naive painted scene, depicting a stylised green hilly landscape with a river and bridge. The colours are strong and the artist clearly had some skill in execution. It is a highly unusual piece with considerable decorative appeal.

The wood panel measures 23cm by 38cm (9 x 15 in.) and is approximately 2cm (¾ in.) thick, and appears to be of some age. The painted portion of the panel measures 13cm by 19cm (5 x 7.5 in.). The work is unsigned. There are no fixings for wall hanging, but they could easily be added by the purchaser.

Vintage Toni Raymond Ceramic Milk Saver

Dating from the 1950s and 1960s, this hand-painted Toni Raymond milk saver is both cute and functional. Not sure what a milk saver is? Placed in the bottom of your saucepan it will prevent milk from boiling over and hung on the wall it will raise a smile. In good condition, with some minor crazing to the glaze due to its age, the milk saver measures approximately 8.5cm across (3½ in.)
