Handsome Vintage Stainless Steel and Black Metamec Battery Quartz Clock

A very handsome Metamec mantle or desk clock, with a very modernist style which would not look out of place in any mid-century inspired interior. With its ridged metal surround, simple silver-coloured face with Roman Numerals, and black accents, this clock certainly is an unfussy and stylish timepiece.

In very good cosmetic condition and fully working, the clock takes a "C"-size battery. It has a ticking second hand, but not a load or unpleasant ticking sound by any means.

The base measures 8cm by 5cm, with an overall height of 16.5cm and depth of 5.5cm. The face diameter is approximately 15cm.

Teak and Mother of Pearl Wall Clock by George Sneed for Heal’s

Made by George Sneed and sold through Heal's department store, this is a handsome and very minimalist wall clock crafted from teak wood with mother of pearl inlays. The simple design of the face coupled with the deep-sided nature of the clock and the use of endgrain patterning makes it very effective and appealing on the wall, and very much in-keeping with a mid-century aesthetic.

The clock face measures approximately 21.5cm (8½ in.) whilst the rear measures slightly wider at 22.5 cm (just under 9 in.), giving it a slightly tapering profile. The clock has a depth of 5cm (2 in.). A recess in the rear houses the French-made "Romatic" quarts movement which is powered by a single "C" size battery and has a an adjuster for the time and a setting to finesse the speed of the clock. An aluminium plate sits over the top of the movement. Also to the rear is a maker's stamp and metal hanging plate.

This particular example is in good condition aside from a few defects. There are some minor signs of age and wear and tear throughout, including a few "nibbles" to edges and some minor surface loss and very slight deformation to the minute hand. It is likely there was a cap of some kind on the barrel (above the minute hand) which is no longer present. Finally, there is a hairline split to the wood from approximately 9.30 on the clock horizontally. This isn't immediately noticeable and appears unlikely to worsen. At some point in the clock's history it has been glued and there is the potential to repeat this repair should the need arise. At is stands though, these defects don't detract from the undoubted good looks of this clock so it has been left alone and is sold "as is".

Large Statement Piece Red Orange and White Italian Glass Vase

A stunning red, orange and white glass vase in heavy glass, this is most likely from the workshops of Murano, the Venetian glass makers responsible for many mid-century classics. It dates from the early 1970s and - due to its size and weight - is very much a statement piece. The vase measures approximately 28cm (11 in.) in height with a rim diameter of 6cm (2½ in.) and a similar base diameter. The interior of the vase is white glass whilst the exterior is composed of a swirling effect with red, white and orange colours (any resemblance to the planet Jupiter almost certainly deliberate!), with proportions which emphasise the upper section of the vase and the rim.

In very good condition with no chips or cracks, the vase has a few minor imperfections some of which are undoubtledly originating from the manufacturing process. A rare piece which is sure to attract attention.

Vintage Sklo Union Glass “Maze” Vase designed by Fratizek Visner

Known as the "maze" vase, the Frantizek Visner-designed glass vase by Sklo Union is rather emblematic of its time - and a good-looking piece for now too. It's a chunky piece measuring approximately 25 cm high (10 in.) with a base measuring 10cm (4 in.) which reflects and refracts light in interesting ways with its deeply pressed glass pattern coming to the fore.

In excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.

Denby Stone and Teak endgrain patterned trivet or small serving board, handcrafted in Denmark

A very attractive-looking butchers block-style trivet or serving board produced by Denby as part of their "Stone and Teak" range. Handcrafted in Denmark in collaboration with Digsmed, the range of products were intended to be complementary and showcase each partner's skills. In this case, there's no stone, just beautifully crafted endgrain teak in a Danish modern style, just some subtle curves to the shape in order for the wood to speak for itself.

In very good, clean, condition with some minor signs of use as one might expect from an item of this type - surface blade marks, etc. - but no chips or dents, and with plenty of life left in it. Original makers stamp to the underside. It measures approximately 25 cm by 15 cm by 2.5 cm (10 in. x 6 in. x 1 in.)

Mid-Century Teak and Glass Small Storage or Spice Jars by DIGSMED, Denmark

A fine looking pair of DIGSMED small glass storage or spice jars with teak tops dating from the 1960s and made in Denmark. They don't seem to be oddments from a spice rack set and appear to have been sold separately. Evidence of this is provided by the fact that they still have original labels attached - the maker's label and some other label which would seem to either be an item identifier or a shop label.

Both jars have metal screw top lids which are capped with a very mid-century modern style teak. The larger of the two - measuring about 10cm (4 in.) high with a diameter of 7cm (2¾ in.) has "1/8 Kg" embossed to the base which is also where its maker's sticker is. The snaller of the two - measuring about 10cm (4 in.) high with a diameter of 5.5cm (2 1/8 in.) - has no such embossing and its marker's sticker is on the side. The smaller jar has a slightly lighter tone to the wooden "cap". Both jars are in very good condition - no chips or cracks to the glass and the wood is similarly good. Both have some tarnishing to the metal interiors.

A mid-century faux wood and metal tray or large trinket dish with curved base, metal feet and handles probably dating from the 1950s/1960s and made in England. In good condition with only minor signs of age and wear.

Measures approximately 26cm (10¼ in.) by long, 18.5cm (7¼ in.) wide, with a maximum height of 5cm (2 in.)

Mid-Century Teak Magazine Rack by Fyne Ladye Furniture

Sometimes - and perhaps erroneously - attributed to Guy Rogers and sold by Heals Department store, this small teak magazine rack was more likely produced by Fyne Ladye Furniture of Banbury. It's a great little example of mid-century style and eminently usable. The teak structure comprises of two sub-divided compartments and the proportions and styling are very much in-keeping with Danish/modern influences.

The rack is in good used condition with some very small signs of wear and tear but generally very presentable indeed. It measures approximately 51cm (length) by 20cm (depth) by 35cm (height) (20 in. by 8 in. by 14 in.)

Arthur Salm Teak and Stainless Steel “Kalmar” Fruit Bowl Mid Century AS Sweden

As much a piece of sculpture as it is a piece of tableware, this "Kalmar" fruit bowl made for Arthur Salm (AS Sweden) makes an elegant statement in stainless steel and teak about design simplicity and use of materials. Introduced in the late 1950s, the bowl consists of a main curve of steel met by teak side panels and feet with gentle curves and hinted reflections, whilst the curved edges of the wood contrast with the stark extents of metal. A superb piece of design which would grace any home, but particularly one with a Scandinavian influence.

Ours is in good condition, with some scratches to the stainless steel as to be expected from a functional item such as this, and with some minor markings to the wood panels. We should also note that the head of one of the screws underneath the feet which attach them to the main steel curve seems to have been damaged in the past. We have not attempted to remove the screw and it is unlikely that there would ever be a need to remove the feet, but the buyer should be aware of this minor defect. The maker's mark is present on the underside of the steel with some minor wear to it, but still visible.

The outer extents of the bowl measure approximately 26.5cm (10½ in.) lengthways, 25cm (10 in.) widthways, and 11.5cm (½ in.) from base to rim. The inner part, so to speak, measures approximately 22cm (8½ in.) by 19.5cm (7½ in.) by 7cm (2¾ in.)

Danish Modernist Stainless Steel Four Candle Holder made by MG

A stunning piece of modernist style tableware, made in Denmark and stamped with the maker's name "MG", this candle holder features four individual stainless steel "holders" for candles with elegant verticals criss-crossing to meet a typically-shaped slim base. A very minimalistic and elegant piece for decorative or practical use which we think would make a great centrepiece.

Candle Holder base 1.5cm / 5/8 in.

In excellent condition, with only some minor scratching to the stainless steel base which is to be expected for an item of this type and age. The underside of the base has the original, but indistinct, retail label on it.
