Handsome Vintage Stainless Steel and Black Metamec Battery Quartz Clock

A very handsome Metamec mantle or desk clock, with a very modernist style which would not look out of place in any mid-century inspired interior. With its ridged metal surround, simple silver-coloured face with Roman Numerals, and black accents, this clock certainly is an unfussy and stylish timepiece.

In very good cosmetic condition and fully working, the clock takes a "C"-size battery. It has a ticking second hand, but not a load or unpleasant ticking sound by any means.

The base measures 8cm by 5cm, with an overall height of 16.5cm and depth of 5.5cm. The face diameter is approximately 15cm.

Stylish 1950s Wade “Woodmist” Trio of Cup, Saucer and Sideplate

A super stylish modern trio in the "Woodmist" design by Wade which has a classic combination of black, grey and orange and abstracted floral pattern which just shouts its origins in the 1950s. In excellent condition and a hard-to-find combination these days, this trio of cup, saucer and sideplate just evokes the era superbly.

For reference, the sideplate is approximately 15cm (6 in.) in diameter. No chips or cracks, just some minor crazing as to be expected of items of this age.

Schlagheck Schultes for OSRAM Magnetic Eyeball Wall Lamp AGILO W40 (1979)

Schlagheck Schultes's AGILO W40 wall lamp for Osram won an iF design award in 1979 - and you can see why. Functionally it's an eyeball lamp which anchors magnetically to its wall mount and aesthetically it's a mix of simple shapes and minimalist lines wrapped up in an absolutely-no-frills package. It's absolute understatement, but very vocal about how well engineered and how closely designed it has been. The box illustrates some possible uses of the lamp - for focusing light on a particular area, for reading, etc. - but it almost goes without saying that this lamp itself now is likely to be the centre of attention rather than what it is illuminating.

This one is almost flawless in terms of condition (the box and small manual aside), and seemingly never used for its intended purpose. The wall mount measures approximately 11.5cm (4½ in.) square with a depth of 2.5 cm (1 in.). The "eyeball" is approximately 10cm (4 in.) in diameter with a bulb opening of 5cm (2 in.). The bulb holder is a small screw type (E14) with a maximum wattage of 40W recommended. Installation is easy and instructions provided. You may even be tempted to use this as a desk or table light... which is what we have had in mind for it ourselves!

Serious offers are welcomed for this highly unusual and uncommon item.

Large Modernist Stainless Steel Salt and Pepper Pots by WMF Germany

A pair of - frankly - oversized salt and pepper pots made by WMF (the artist formerly known as "Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik") of Germany. They are beautifully sculpted from stainless steel with a form which resembles something like a brutalist hourglass, and they are indeed large (almost 8cm / 3in. in height and 6.5 / 2½ in. in diameter). They're a bold statement.

There's not much more to be said - you'll probably either love them or hate them. They are in good condition with the odd surface scratch, and a screw stopper base to allow for re-filling. And just in case you are wondering, the two pots are indeed different from one another in terms of which is salt and which is pepper. The former has larger holes from which it dispenses...

Modernist Style Vintage Stainless Steel Rounded Square Dish

A striking small stainless steel dish with more than a hint of Danish modernist style to it, but made in Hong Kong by KH. The dish, which is stamped underneath with design no. s-873, has an overall rounded square form with a circular base and interior, with bevelling to the outside lip edges and subtlely smoothed interior. In very good overall condition with minor superficial scratches and signs of wear, but nothing which catches the eye or detracts from the otherwise striking form.

The dish measures approximately 12.5 cm square (5 in.) with a depth of 2cm (¾ in.). The circular rim has a diameter of 9.5cm (3¾ in.) and the base has a diameter of 5cm (2 in.)

Rectangular Modernist Sadler Jug Vase in Moss Green (Form 168)

A very strikingly "different" jug vase from Sadler. Well known for their more traditional shapes, this vase is anything but that, with its rectangular form, "bobble" and "ribbing" textures and uncompromising styling. If a pottery vase can be brutal or modernist, then this one can make the claim. In a moss green colour with square rim and handle, the vase measures 11.5cm (4½ in.) in width, 7.5cm (3 in.) in depth and is 13cm (5¼ in.) high. The vase is in good condition with only very minor and superficial signs of age and wear. There are a couple of minor grazes which are only noticeable under very close inspection.

Hebi (“Snake”) Table Lamp by Isao Hosoe for Valenti Luce, 1970

A true design classic and an adjustable lamp like no other, the Hebi lamp made by Valenti of Italy is a coiled tube which literally provides flexibility: the entire structure being twistable and turnable throughout its length courtesy of an articulated metal inner and plastic outer "tube". An aerospace engineer, Isao Hosoe moved to Italy in his early twenties to establish his own design office in Milan. The Hebi lamp (Italian for "snake") of 1970 propelled him into international recognition and earned the lamp a place in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

As well as its snake-like body, the lamp also has a rotatable metal shade in brushed metal which provides additional positioning possibilities. Ours is in good clean working condition, with minor wear and tear to the shade, some slight discoloration to the metal parts in places, and a couple of very minor indents to the shade which are barely noticeable without close inspection. We have decided to leave these imperfections "as is" rather than attempt to make the lamp look "new" again with significant polishing etc. It's an almost 50 year old lamp despite its modern looks and so, aside from cleaning it, we have respected that and done no more. The buyer might wish to fully polish the shade and metal parts but that would not be our choice.

The "body" of the lamp measures approximately 128cm (51 in.) with an additional 1.5m (59 in.) of flex. An inline switch provides an on/off button and the rubber sleeve which marks the meeting of the flex and the body is embossed with "VALENTI MADE IN ITALY". The shade is approximately 9cm (3½ in.) in diameter.

Teak and Chromed Metal Decorative Plant Pot Stand

The solution to the dull plant pot holder?! This teak and chromed metal stand puts bland plant pots in the shade, with its petal shaped-design, feet and teak base, it has a mid-century modernist - almost Atomic - style to it.

It is 17.5cm (7in.) tall and the maker is unknown, but we wouldn't at all be surprised if it originated from Denmark. The stand is in good condition - only very minor signs of wear and tear and a pair of mystery holes on the underside!

Danish Modernist Stainless Steel Four Candle Holder made by MG

A stunning piece of modernist style tableware, made in Denmark and stamped with the maker's name "MG", this candle holder features four individual stainless steel "holders" for candles with elegant verticals criss-crossing to meet a typically-shaped slim base. A very minimalistic and elegant piece for decorative or practical use which we think would make a great centrepiece.

Candle Holder opening 3cm / 1 1/8 in.
Candle Holder base 1.5cm / 5/8 in.

In excellent condition, with only some minor scratching to the stainless steel base which is to be expected for an item of this type and age. The underside of the base has the original, but indistinct, retail label on it.

Conrah Modernist Deep Red Anodized Aluminium Diamond Design Bowl

We have to admit it - we're big fans of Conrah, the Welsh makers of highly technical and stylishly engineered items such as this. The red anodised aluminium bowl features a facet cut diamond design and dates from the early 1970s - and is typical Conrah. Its stunningly simple design and superior finish makes this dish a perfect centrepiece to a table or a great addition to a modernist decor. It was "all the rage" a few years ago, but we think it continues to be worthy of a look.

Measuring approx. 5 cm (2 in) high with a diameter of 13 cm (5.25 in). It's in good condition, with only some minor blemishes to the interior, a couple of ever-so-tiny dings to the rim, and some slight "fuzzing" to the felt base.
