A very unusual vintage handheld lamp which was most likely used in a workshop or garage for inspections. Consisting of an aluminium shade with a wood handle, this item which probably dates from or before the 1950s but would make an nteresting and quirky piece of lighting now.

The original cabling has been replaced with a generous length (3m) of suitable braided neutral-coloured alternative and the lamp has been tested as working. It has an unusual rotating switch for turning the light on and off. There is wear throughout but both the metal shade and the wood handle have been sensitively restored to retain the character of the lamp.

The lamp has an oveall length of 30cm (12 in.|), the shade rim has a diameter of 19cm (7½ in.) and a depth of 18cm (7 in.), whilst the handle is approximately 17cm (6¾ in.) in length.

It's understandable if you're under the impression that it was only soft furnishings and bathroom suites which were avocado colour in the 1970s, but this cycling clock (rather like a flip clock but the numbers roll rather than flip as time passes) is proof to the contrary (see also). Made by Copal of Japan this is - unusually - marketed as a "portable" battery-powered device. A single "D" size battery provides the juice. The display has a glow option (activated by depressing the button on top of the unit) and the clock also has an alarm function (the alarm is activated via the button at the back). The clock emits a ticking sound and the rolling of the numbers is not silent, if noise is a concern for you.

This one is in full working order and comes complete with its original box (in relatively good condition) and instructions, which is also unusual. Condition-wise it is excellent with only extremely minor signs of age and use. The only cosmetic issue being some rusting to the underside of the metal battery cover. The actual battery compartment is in good order.

A rare opportunity to purchase a very uncommon item in great condition. Offers are welcomed.

Just a box, yes, it's true - but what a nice box. It used to contain a Cathay Portable Twin Cassette Player with Radio (Model SRC727Q) but it doesn't any more. It's now empty but it's got an appeal all of its own so we're offering it up to see if someone would like to give it a home for decorative purposes or to re-unite it with some contents which would fit it. We would recommend a Cathay Model SRC727Q Portable Twin Cassette Player with Radio as the perfect companion for it.

Make us an offer? ;)

A hefty slice of 1980s nostalgia in the shape of the Saisho PM 51P which is a "portable component system" with detachable speakers, cassette tape deck, AM/FM radio, micropohone input, external input, carrying handle and lots of glossy black plastic with red and white highlights. A perfect complement for that 80s bedroom decor!

In working condition (though a little bit crackly through the speakers when the volume is altered) and good cosmetically too. There are, of course, some minor superficial signs of age and use, and the speaker grilles have suffered the odd dent or two over the years, but it's generally in good visual shape with no controls missing and no chips or cracks to the body. The unit (without speakers detached and handle down) measures approximately 52cm (width) by 14cm (depth) by 22cm (height) (20½ in. by 5½ in. by 8½ in.). Each speaker is approximately 13cm wide and 13cm deep (5 in.).

Looking rather like a plastic discus with a surprised face on it or a steamrollered Panasonic "Panapet" (R-70), this portable AM radio has groovy written all over it. It doesn't, of course, but the shape, the font in the sticker, the red and orange colour scheme, and the arrangement of the speaker and control dials, all adds up to a peculiarly groovy item, and moreover one which is designed to be "worn" over the shoulder so you can take your tones with you (ahem).

The radio works - although a bit crackly - and takes two "AA" batteries - you just unscrew the two halves to reveal the inside and the battery compartment. The plastic strap is affixed to the metal belt which surrounds the orange housing via a "D" ring, which is not original but which works perfectly. It and the strap can be removed if necessary, the latter by unscrewing the red closure which holds the belt in place.

The radio measures approximately 13cm in diameter with a depth of 6cm (approx. 5 in. and 2¼ in. respectively), and the strap is approximately 122cm (48 in.) in total length. In very good condition with only extremely minimal superficial signs of age and use.

The "Metek" folding lamp is a miniature triumph of engineering, packing a lot into a very small package. This one, believed to date from the 1950s, is in an unusual and original navy blue colour. It has the wear you would absolutely expect from a lamp which was designed to travel: this portable lamp folds up clam-like with the shade forming one half and the base the other, in order for it to be neatly stowed away and taken on the road or on the rails. A ball joint in the base and an adjustable joint below the shade provide the flexible angles required and the spring-loaded clamp built into the base allows the lamp to be firmly attached to an appropriate surface or object.

The lamp folds down into a compact form measuring approximately 16cm length by 12cm width by 11cm depth (6¼in. by 5in. by 4½in.) and comes with approximately 2m (6ft) of cabling to the plug.
