Vintage Ravensburger Dick Bruna Eskimo 8-piece Wood Tray Jigsaw

As unmistakeable as it is charming, this is a Dick Bruna "Eskimo" jigsaw which was made by Ravensburger and is a simple puzzle for the smaller child. Comprising 8 pieces in a tray style, this typical Bruna illustration should find favour with the larger child and adult.

The puzzle measures approximately 10 in. by 7.5 in., and is in good condition overall with only very minor signs of age or use. There are a couple of small surface marks and pin holes to two of the corners, but otherwise it's good throughout.

A pair of charming vintage wooden tray jigsaws made by W. R. Kelly

A pair of very charming tray style wooden jigsaw puzzles made by W.R. Kelly of Stonham Aspal, Suffolk. Each is a simplified and colourful depiction, one of a lorry and the other a steam ship, with six and five pieces respectively. Intended for the younger child, certainly. They look great on display and that's what would be envisaged their use now. Both have signs of age and wear, with the boat jigsaw having also some minor damage as well (see the photos for details). The lorry puzzle has a sticker on the reverse whilst the ship has a somewhat smudged stamp to its rear side.

Each puzzle measures approximately 7 inches (18cm) square.

1980 Boxed MB Electronics Genius Sliding Lights Puzzle Handheld Game

A game that might have passed you by back in the day is this MB Electronics "Genius" game. It's an electronic variation on the familiar sliding tile puzzle games of the past, but instead of trying to complete a picture by manipulating the tiles, the twist here is that the tiles are uniform and indicate their correct position by lighting up. It's weirdly addictive, frustrating, and fascinating... a test of memory and strategy as well as patience!

It runs on two AA batteries and is fully working, complete with original box and instructions. It's in good condition with no chips or cracks to the plastics.

Vintage Novelty Sardines Fishy Puzzle Game 1970s Hong Kong

"Packed in Pure Fun". The "Sardines" fishy puzzle is a novelty toy which is both an immediately pleasing concept and packaged in a colourful and interesting way. The aim of the puzzle is to get all of the little sardines back into the tin. It's a little harder than it might first appear - there is only one solution - but helpfully the answer is given on the underside of the "tin". In bright orange and blue, this is 1970s plastic fantastic at its finest. It's just a fun item and it would make for a gift that is certainly different from the norm.

1970s Playcraft (Mettoy) 6 in 1 Magic Puzzle Toy – Disney Scenes

A "Magic Puzzle" made by Mettoy under the Playcraft brand which has 6 puzzle images from Walt Disney which are created by "rolling" different sections either horizontally or vertically so that they are arranged correctly. There are four rollable sections on each side making up a puzzle of 16 "pieces". The puzzle is dated 1974 and the six pictures are scenes from Winnie The Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snow White, Beauty and The Beast, and The Jungle Book.

Measuring approximately 23 cm (9 in.) square, the puzzle is in good condition considering its undoubted use. There is some wear to the card elements and a little curling to the rolling sections but nothing which affects use or impacts too much visually. The red plastic frame has retained most of its colour, unlike many of the time which have become a rather mottled pink.

Waddingtons Teaching Jigsaw Puzzle – Telephone (1978)

A very colourful children's jigsaw made by Waddingtons and dated 1978. It is complete and is part of the "Teaching Puzzle" series, this one depicting telephone-related scenes. In very good condition (albeit with some wear and tear to the box), the puzzle measures 48cm x 29cm when complete (19 in. x 11 in.).

Vintage Jig-Map No. 421 – The British Isles jigsaw by Waddington complete with quiz

A vintage jigsaw map a.k.a jig-map made by Waddington of The British Isles in excellent and complete condition, with original placename quiz pieces and instructions. This is the original design of the British Isles Jig-Map and dates from the 1960s.

The completed jigsaw measures 61.5cm x 51cm (24¼ in. x 20 3/8 in.). The box has some scuffed edges but the jigsaw itself is very clean and colourful... and we are informed it is quite challenging. We "outsourced" the jigsaw testing! ;)
