A renowned name in medical illustration, (Prof.) John Hull Grundy was also an entymologist, teacher, anatomist, author and artist of considerable repute, exhibiting throughout his life and notably in 1976 at the Royal Army Medical college where his full range of works - done in his trademark stippling style - were on display. His wife, Anne Hull Grundy (nee Ullmann) was also a signifcant figure in the art world, a collector and benefactor whose bequests and donations can be found in substantial quality and number.

This framed print of a waterside scene is a nice example of Grundy's delicate and meticulous stippling technique. Measuring 21.5cm x 17.5cm (8½ in. x 6¾ in.) inside a frame 33cm x 37.5 (11 in. x 14¾ in.) the work is complemented by a pale green mount. We rather like the presentation but also think that a contemporary re-framing and re-mounting of it would do a lot to enhance what is a very striking piece.

Carved Wood Soviet-era Stylised Wall Plaque

This visually appealing wooden artwork features cream-coloured carving on a dramatic black background, and depicts a stylised scene of a river or lake and farmland. The label on the back indicates that it was bought from a state-run store (Beriozka) and was likely originally sourced from what is present-day Estonia around 1983.

The plaque is in excellent condition and measures approximately 34cm tall, 22.5cm wide, with a depth of 1cm (13in by 9in by ½in). It's quite a stunning piece.

Three Original Pen and Ink Drawings signed “P.G.B.”

Three very deftly executed original drawings believed to be dating from the 1930s in pen and ink on small cards, depicting rural scenes of cottages, a river and a church. Each piece is signed "P.G.B." and measures 13.5cm x 10 cm (5 3/8 in by 4 1/8 in). We have added a suitable clip frame which has been given a grey "wash" effect to complement the drawings. The cards are in good condition, albeit with some yellowing from age. Very nice little pieces from clearly a very talented but unknown artist!
