Large Vintage Metal Record Shop Sign “Classics for Pleasure 84p” (EMI Classical)

Judging by the font and the price (!), this sign from a record shop probably dates from the mid- to late-1970s. It's a metal item which has holes for hanging either vertically or horizontally and it proudly proclaims that for 84p you can have "Classics For Pleasure" and not in mono, oh no - the sign indicates "stereo"! The former presumably a reference to classical music records or cassettes from the EMI label of the same name. At some point, the price was different as the section where the "84p" is displayed is in fact a sticker on top of the metal sign.

The sign has wear and tear and some surface loss, most evident in the word "classics" but it looks great on a wall and is a certain conversation starter. It measures approximately 68cm x 28 cm (26¾ in x 11 in.). Any reasonable offers considered for this item.

Vintage University or College “MAIN LECTURE THEATRE” Sign

Vintage signage from an academic building, a college or university which reads "MAIN LECTURE THEATRE" in white Sans Serif lettering on a black ground. The sign is made of a clear plastic/acrylic with a re-painted black rear face with a hole at either end for affixing to a wall. A nice piece of institutional signage which would make a quirky gift or would simply help direct people to the place in your home where the lectures usually take place! ;)

The sign measures 38cm x 5cm (15 in. x 2 in.) and is in good overall condition. There is a small imperfection to one edge under the "M" of "MAIN" but this is not noticeable without close inspection.

Vintage Engaged Sign in Cream with Black Lettering

A quirky little item, this "ENGAGED" sign which presumably was originally used perhaps for a meeting room, or perhaps a much smaller room (!), to indicate that it was occupied or in use. In an off white ground with black lettering which is slightly impressed, the sign is made of a plastic material with holes for hanging the sign on the appropriate door handle. The sign has at some point been used in an office, because it would appear that someone has etched the word "OFFICE" on the back of it by hand. We think this piece could continue in use with its original purpose, but it also might make for a quirky engagement gift for a soon-to-be wedded couple with a sense of humour.

The sign measures approximately 6in. by 2 in. (15cm by 5cm) and comes complete with string. In good general condition, with some signs of age and use.

Antique Chunky Gilt Frame with Blackboard

Perfect for larger notices and signs with a touch of distinction, this genuine antique gilt frame has been supplemented with a contemporary blackboard which will take a traditional chalk stick or chalk pen and wipes clean with a damp cloth or sponge. The frame itself has classical geometric decoration and beading details and certainly makes a statement. It's bold and distinctive and would certainly catch the eye, whether at home, in an event venue, or in a restaurant or retail environment.

The outer frame measures 57.5cm x 42.5cm ( 22.5in. x 16.75in.) and the blackboard (frame aperture) is 46cm x 31cm (18in. x 12in.).

There is age-related wear and tear to the frame which adds to the look and contrasts well with the blackboard, and there is some slight gaping in the mitres but nothing very noticeable or concerning. The frame is sound and solid otherwise. Please note: no fixings are provided with this particular frame, but there are eyelet rings already present on the frame ready for horizontal hanging if that is the buyer's preference.

Quirky Vintage French “Wet Paint” Sign Dating from the 1950s/1960s

Made by - and branded - the French paint manufacturers "Usines de la Seigneurie" ("Factories of The Seigneurie") between the 1930s and the 1960s from the district of Pantin, France of the same name. This is a quirky and colourful sign indicating "Wet Paint" in French with a young girl playfully and dutifully illustrating this! It is made of very light cardboard and measures 28cm by 19cm (11in. by 7½in.). and the reverse of the sign is plain. It comes with a hanging string, and probably dates from the 1950s or 1960s. It would make an interesting decorative piece, a humorous gift for an artist, could be mounted and framed easily, or just used "as is" - it's difficult not to smile when seeing it, in whatever way it might be displayed!

There is some wear to the edges and a tear to the sign near the the centre, but one wouldn't expect an item of this age, material and use to be pristine. It's remarkable that is in as good condition as it is, really, and we think its charm and quirkiness overwhelms any imperfections.

Antique Decorative Gilt Gesso Frame with Blackboard

Perfect for to-do lists, shopping lists, or notices and signs with a touch of distinction, this genuine antique gilt gesso frame has been supplemented with a contemporary blackboard which will take a traditional chalk stick or chalk pen and wipes clean with a damp cloth or sponge. The frame itself has ornate and elegant decoration of flourishes and floral motifs but is subtle enough not to be overwhelming or fussy.

The outer frame measures 36.5cm x 29cm ( 14.5in. x 11.5in.) and the blackboard (frame aperture) is 32cm x 24cm (12.5in. x 9.5in.).

There is age-related wear and tear to the frame which adds to the look and contrasts well with the blackboard. There is evidence of previous woodworm which has been treated and there is some slight gaping in the mitres but nothing very noticeable or concerning. The frame is sound and solid otherwise. Please note: no fixings are provided with this particular frame, but - due to its lightness and smaller size - a standard hanging arrangement would suffice for wall hanging or it could be easily stand-mounted.

Aluminium “Doctor No Parking” Sign

A strange item, presumably sent by the makers of Fortagesic painkillers to promote their product to GPs, Doctors and Surgeries. The aluminium sign - which we think dates back to the 1970s or 1980s - is in good condition aside from slight bending in places and some surface blemishes. The adhesive strip on the back indicates it's never been used. The sign is presented in a card folder which is in reasonable condition considering its age, but we expect that the potential buyer is going to be more interested in the sign itself. Perhaps a quirky gift for a doctor in the house or Doctor Who fan?

The sign is 20cm (8in) by 6.5cm (2.5in).

“Off Limits” institutional sign

Perfect for a "Man Cave" or as a quirky "staff-only" or "no-entry" sign, this rather stylish institutional "OFF LIMITS" sign is of some age and appears to be made of Bakelite. It has crisp cream lettering debossed on a black background.

Its dimensions are 12 in (30cm) by 2.5 in (6.25 cm) and it has holes in each corner for attaching at your chosen location. The sign is about 1/8 in (3mm) thick. Overall condition is very good with only some minor chipping and wear to the edges as you might expect from something of this age, but the surfaces are clean and undamaged.

A real find, we think, and it would look striking on the door of your beloved/difficult teenager/spouse's room or in fact almost anywhere where a little privacy should be observed. And observed in a more stylish manner than a tacky modern sign would suggest!
