A novelty item (well, items) from the 1950s which would probably have been a pocket-money toy, possibly even bought from a vending machine, these are a pair of alka-seltzer powered miniature toy boats. There's not much more to be said about them really, except that presumably they still work as per the instructions provided.

Good things come in little packages, and this vintage "Microlite" telescopic desk light in red body colour is no exception. In very good cosmetic condition, this lamp features two levels of illumination ("DIM" and "HI"), a very compact form and footprint, and a highly adjustable telescopic head. It's not only a practical light for illuminating small spaces but it's a good-looking object in itself which takes up very little space when folded in on itself or when the telescopic neck is retracted.

It is fully functional, has only a few signs of wear and tear, no chips or cracks to the plastic, and very little tarnishing to the metal neck. The white body still retains a good colour, unlike some examples of this particular lamp which sometimes have turned into a darker cream colour. The label on the underside has some pen marks on it from a previous owner.

Designed by Pierre Cardin, the Pifco 983 is a small telescopic desk lamp with a somewhat space-age look which dates from the 1970s. The white shade and body contrast with the black panel which features a switch which provides low and high intensity settings as well as turning the lamp off. This particular telescopic lamp is one that retracts and folds into a compact form when not in use. The shade is positionable and the telescopic arm extends almost 40 cm (16 in.). The base itself is a rectangular curved shape approximately 12cm (4¾ in.) by 7cm (2¾ in.) by 7cm (2¾ in.) .

This one is in very good condition. There is minimal discolouration to the white plastics (as is sometimes the case), there are no chips or cracks to the shade or the body, and it is solid and fully functional. In summary, this is a very good example of this particular variety of lamp.

Back in the day... when you'd probably provide your dinner guests or house visitors with their own personal ashtray! This small and rather kitsch little item is a set of four small (3 inch square) glass ashtrays which stack in a portable storage rack with a handle for dispensing when needed. A quirky little item from a time when almost everyone smoked! (Now it could be used for decorative purposes or even as a tea light holder, we think...)

Made in Italy. There are one of two minor grazes and nibbles to the glass but otherwise everything is present and correct and in good shape. The storage "rack" measures approximately 15 cm (6 in.) tall.

An unusual and diminutive vintage desk lamp in gold finish with chromed fittings. The most notable features of this lamp are the Anglepoise-style shade design (basically the shade looks very much like a smaller version of the 1227 Anglepoise shade), the curved armatures which are connected to each other and to the shade fitting by no less than four ball and socket joints, and the large ball and socket joint which attaches the arm to the base, allowing for more positioning freedom. It all makes for flexibility of adjustment in a very small package. A white push button to the base switches the lamp on and off.

There are signs of age and wear throughout, but the overall condition is very good. Expect some surface losses to the chrome and some minor scrapes and dings to it, however.

The lamp measures approximately 46cm (18 in.) in height at its fullest extent, with a base diameter of 13cm (5 in.) and a base height of 2cm (¾ in.). The wiring has been renewed, but as with all electrical items an inspection and safety test (PAT in the UK) is recommended. The lamp currently has a complementary gold-coloured cable the length of which is approximately 150cm (59 in.)

This is the "Lampette" by Eichhoff-Werke, a small telescopic desk lamp. This one is in unused condition - the cabling which fits into the lower part of the lamp still has a paper band around it and appears never to have been removed from that location, and the shade still has the original corrugated cardboard protector inside it. In addition, the original small brochure of instructions is present, as is the small metal plate for wall mounting, polystyrene packing material and a somewhat battered and slightly damaged box. It's not often you'd find a lamp of this age in an unused state.

The diminutive form of the "Lampette" resembles a two-part truncated cone when opened - with the shade appearing to match the top of the base - whilst in reality the shade fits to the bottom of the base when closed, with the arm rotating around the upturned base rather than collapsing into the top as is often the case with telescopic lamps.

The body of the lamp is a light grey/silver tone with the interior of the shade finished in white, with chromed metal and silver tone detailing. The lamp has two intensity settings for flexible illumination and the arm on which the shade sits extends from a lowly 13cm (5¼ in.) to 40cm (15¾ in.) and rotates through 360 degrees. The shade is hinged where it meets the arm allowing for further flexibilty, allowing the shade to be positioned downwards almost at the perpendicular to almost vertically upwards. To get an idea of how it looks in use, please refer to this page for a previously stocked Lampette.

The base has a diameter of 8cm (3¼ in.) and a height of 9cm (3½ in.) and the shade measures approximately 7cm (2¾ in.) in length with an opening of 5cm (2 in.). In its most compact form the entire lamp measures therefore about 15cm (6 in.) in length. The lamp is rated to a 220V power supply and takes a 6V 25W bulb, a dimmable motoring bulb style (small bayonet) fit, and it is currently wired to a continental two pin plug (but has been successfully used with a three pin adapter). In very good overall cosmetic condition, bar some minor storage wear and very sound mechanically.

One of a variety of small telescopic desk lamps of the era, most of which were made in Japan, this is the "Lampette" by Eichhoff-Werke which hails instead from Germany and dates from the 1970s. Its small form resembles a two-part truncated cone when opened - with the shade appearing to match the top of the base - whilst in reality the shade fits to the bottom of the base when closed, with the arm rotating around the upturned base rather than collapsing into the top as is often the case with telescopic lamps.

It's presented in what might be a described as a light mushroom tone - a neutral pale grey-brown - with the interior of the shade finished in white, with chromed metal and silver tone detailing. As can be seen from the photo gallery this flexibility in the arm and shade allows for a wide variety of possible positionings and configurations.

The lamp is rated to a 220V power supply and takes a 6V 25W bulb, a dimmable motoring bulb style (bayonet) fit, and it is currently wired to a continental two pin plug (but has been successfully used with a three pin adapter). In very good overall cosmetic condition bar a couple of minor marks/patches of slight discolouration to the plastics, and very sound mechanically.
