Vintage 1970s Large Orange Tonka Crane in Pressed Steel and Plastic

Another classic design and an iconic brand, Tonka. This is a large orange Tonka crane in pressed steel and plastic and it's in good condition considering its age and use. There is some wear to the original paintwork, particularly around the front corners and top of the cab and the stickers are present but a little worn on the cab on both sides. It's a good example of the type, though, and this one has the slightly blue tinted plastics in the screen and lights at the front which is a little unusual - more commonly this plastic is clear (see our yellow version of the same model for comparison). This one also comes with its original string and hook, which is always a nice bonus for this kind of toy where they often go missing.

Vintage Tonka Pressed Steel Pepsi-Cola Delivery Truck with Original Crates

A relatively uncommon Tonka "Pepsi-Cola" delivery truck which is made all the more desirable because it still retains most of its stickers and also, crucially, retains its plastic bottle crates which sit in the rear of the truck. Measuring approximately 20cm long, the truck is in very good condition for its age and use, with not too many dings or scrapes to the painted metal body parts and perhaps the only defect being some peeling of the stickers on the crates. It's unusual to find one in this kind of condition with the crates still present, and it's a good display piece, whether for the Tonka collector or indeed the collector of Pepsi-related items.

1970s Tonka Friction Drive Semi Truck and Trailer Made in Japan

Better known for their bright yellow and orange construction-themed toys, this is a slightly different Tonka product. This is a smaller, stylised truck and trailer which bears some of the obvious Tonka hallmarks - notably its absolutely bomb-proof construction - but some deviations. Most notable is that styling - it's got an almost futuristic look to it - and the friction-drive mechanism which is activated by first rolling the tractor unit until the revs build and then either pressing the button on the rear of it with your finger or attaching the trailer to it which engages the drive. And, away it goes... it many ways it seems to be a precursor or companion to the Clutch Popper style cars which Tonka produced, but it doesn't appear to have been branded under that label.

The truck and trailer together measure apprximately 20cm (8 in.) in length, with a height of 7.5cm (3 in.) and width of 7cm (2¾ in.)

In very good condition with some minor wear to some of the metal corners, to the plastics, and to the stickers, but overall in very good shape for a 40+ year old toy and a great example for the Tonka collector and the "Big Kid" alike.

Vintage 1970s Large Yellow Tonka Crane in Pressed Steel and Plastic

Another classic design and an iconic brand, Tonka. This is a large yellow Tonka crane in pressed steel and plastic and it's in great condition considering its age and use. There's barely a mark to the paintwork (original, by the way) and stickers are intact on the cab on both sides. A very clean example and these are hard to come by now. There are some things to note - it's missing its string and hook but that could be easily remedied depending on what the ultimate use of the crane is going to be. We had envisaged it perhaps being turned into a lamp base for a man-cave, but we'll now leave that up to the next guardian to determine. We will include a length of suitable cord and a Meccano hook (not the original Tonka one, but very similar) should that be the buyer's choice - just let us know :)

It's also very very slightly awry at the front where the left headlight should sit inside the grille section. It's barely noticeable, but it deserves to be pointed out. These minor defects aside, this is an incredibly well-presented survivor and a great example of the type.

1970s Pressed Steel Green Tonka Pickup Truck Toy

A 1970s Tonka Toys green pickup truck in pressed steel with plastic detailing. Although missing its original "Tonka" stickers and with some signs of use and age (surface scratches and wear and slight discoloration to the clear plastics), this remains a good display piece in good condition. It's certainly a cheerful colour and would suit someone with an interest in Tonka toys and Americana, or someone nostalgic for past childhood.

The truck measures approximately 18cm (7 in.) long, 7cm (2¾ in.) wide and 7.5 cm (3 in.) high.

Collectable Red Tonka Learjet Metal and Plastic Toy (1979)

Probably the closest most of us will ever get to owning one, this Learjet toy by Tonka dates from the late 1970s and is in excellent, displayable, condition. Finished in a predominately red and white livery, the plane has metal upper sections and shiny plastic undersides.

There are very minor signs of wear and tear, but this particular Learjet looks like it has seen little action. The paintwork is almost unblemished, there are no nasty-looking scratches and the stickers are in good shape. It's about as good as one might hope for in a toy that's almost 40 years old.
