If you're of a certain age, you'll certainly remember these water-powered dexterity games made by Tomy. Dating from the late 1970s and early 1980s, this one is the "Robot". Once filled with water, the aim of this "wizard water game" is to guide the pieces of the robot using the power of the water "whoosher" onto the structure inside the tank. It's simple enough to describe, but it takes a lot of skill and is rather tricky to do... the box promises "hours of fun".

In good condition with some superfical wear from use. The game comes complete with the original rubber seal (which attaches handily to the underside) and has no chips, cracks or anything else that would present a problem given that the game tank should stay filled with water! The box is a little bit battered, but it's nice to have it nonetheless.

A renowned name in medical illustration, (Prof.) John Hull Grundy was also an entymologist, teacher, anatomist, author and artist of considerable repute, exhibiting throughout his life and notably in 1976 at the Royal Army Medical college where his full range of works - done in his trademark stippling style - were on display. His wife, Anne Hull Grundy (nee Ullmann) was also a signifcant figure in the art world, a collector and benefactor whose bequests and donations can be found in substantial quality and number.

This framed print of a waterside scene is a nice example of Grundy's delicate and meticulous stippling technique. Measuring 21.5cm x 17.5cm (8½ in. x 6¾ in.) inside a frame 33cm x 37.5 (11 in. x 14¾ in.) the work is complemented by a pale green mount. We rather like the presentation but also think that a contemporary re-framing and re-mounting of it would do a lot to enhance what is a very striking piece.

In extremely good condition, this a truly unique pen, ink and wash drawing on Cotman board of various strokes in swimming made by the prolific artist and author Sidney George Hedges (1897-1974). The exact origins of the picture are unknown but it may be an illustration for the book "How to swim crawl" or was created in support of a shorter article on swimming for one of his many books or book contributions. It is dated around the late 1920s or 1930 and may have been for the book "Our Gift Book For Boys". A stamp on the back of the Cotman board suggests that this was an illustration submitted to the Byron Studios in Farringdon Avenue, EC4, London.

Sidney George Hedges was a British author of books and articles on swimming, games and hobbies for young people, and was especially active in the 1930's. We have mounted the board into a clip frame measuring 30cm by 24cm (12 in by 9½ in) with an appropriate colour backing paper. The board itself has a charmingly irregular shape (measuring approx. 21.5 cm by 22.0 cm / 8½ in by 8¾ in) but it is in good condition and the colours remain good. The buyer may wish to pursue a more permanent framing solution, but we think it looks great just as it is. Perfect for the swimmer or swimming fan or just for its aesthetic appeal!
