Vintage Prinzsound SDC18 AM/FM Stereo Flip Clock Radio with AUX IN

A vintage flip clock radio made by PrinzSound, specifically the SDC18 which boasts some quality features inside a very masculine and large frame. It's stylish in a late 70s kind of way - wood effect, metallic grey panelling and black detals throughout and lots of shiny "chrome" controls. The unit has a decent tuner which picks stations up nicely, is true stereo (a light in the front indicates radio broadcasts in stereo) and it produces a good rounded sound from the twin speakers on either side of the body. Rather unusually, the SDC18 has an auxiliary input for incoming audio, making this quite a useful modern-day appliance for use with phone, MP3 player or even with a wireless audio adapter.

These features are on top of the more standard things you'd expect - radio or buzzer alarm, snooze and sleep controls and so on.

The flip clock mechanism works flawlessly and although the illumination is not what it would have been when new, it's usable. The tuning and volume controls are a little bit crackly but not bad at all. The unit is in very good condition with no chips or cracks to the body. There are some minor dents to the top surface near the "snooze" button and a few minor scratches and grazes and signs of wear throughout, but nothing very distracting or noticeable. All in all, a very uncommon item - and very bold aesthetically - which stands the test of time, particularly because of the AUX IN option it provides and the quality sound it outputs.

The unit measures approximately 37.5cm (14¾ in.) across the front, 18cm (7 in.) from front to back and 13cm (5 in.) in height. All measurements include any protruding knobs or controls. Please get in touch if you require specific measurements.

PrinzSound DC10 Digital Solid State AM/FM Clock Radio Rolling Digit

With a sound output which more than matches its impressive looks, the PrinzSound DC-10 is a large rolling digit clock / radio with all the features you'd hope for. It's an uncompromising box shape with woodgrain effect plastic housing and a large front display panel housing the wavelength indicator, clock display, a multi-function knob for the clock modes, radio band selection switch, and volume and tone sliders. The tuner wavelength indicator is, unusually, presented in a circular fashion with separate AM and FM sections to it. Knobs for adjusting the tuner and the clock are located to the sides of the unit, whilst to the right hand side of the unit is an earphone socket. The audio output from the DC-10 is surprisingly solid, rounded and loud, and this, combined with robust construction throughout, seems to indicate that this wasn't a "cheap and nasty" production. Far from it. An eye-catching appliance that would definitely take centre-stage in the right environment.

The DC-10 measures approximately 32cm (12½ in.) in width, 15cm (6 in.) from front to back, with a height of 11cm (4¼ in.). This item is in good working and aesthetic condition. It is wired to a UK three-pin plug on a 1.3m (50 in.) cable and has been function-tested. There are no chips or cracks to the housing, and only to-be-expected signs of age and use such as slight wear to dials and labels and some very minor nibbles to the black bezel. Please note, this clock is not illuminated.

Prinzsound DC16 Flip Clock AM / FM Radio and Alarm

How's this for "bedside manner"? It's certainly a bold statement and a large statement at that! Perhaps a little too much for the bedside, but wherever you chose to locate it, the Prinzsound DC16 is a big unit comprising a flip clock and AM/FM radio tuner and alarm with sleep and snooze functionality. It also has a surprisingly solid manufacture and equally robust sound from its speaker. Encased in an uncompromising but stylish black and silver housing the main feature of the DC16 is a clear panel which starts on the top of the unit and wraps around the front, where the main functional buttons and knobs are located.

The front comprises a flip clock which works flawlessly and alarm time and rotating seconds indicators, tuner display and a row of buttons for setting various options such as the alarm function and type (radio or buzzer), tuning band, radio (manual or automatic) and volume slider. The tuner display is duplicated on the top of the unit and both have a red light indicating the position. To the right hand side of the unit is a large tuning adjuster, whilst to the far left of the front of the panel is a knob for setting the sleep time and a dual-purpose knob for alarm and time adjustment. The chromed knobs feel reassuringly solid and offset the look of the black and silver housing nicely.

Our DC16 is in good cosmetic condition and fully functional. The volume slider is slightly noisy but the radio plays clearly once the volume is set. There is some slight wear underneath the clear panel and some very minor dust inside, but nothing too detrimental - overall, this is very good aesthetically and very well made, a quality which belies its rather humble origins as a product from a "High Street" brand.

The unit is large - 33cm (13 in.) wide at the front, 18cm (7 in.) from front to back, and it sits 11cm (4¼ in.) high. It weighs in at a hefty 2 Kg.
