Vintage Purple Arthur Wood Hand Painted Piggy Bank (5272)

A pottery piggy bank, which dates from the 1970s and is unmistakeably an Arthur Wood piece, though no sticker is attached. The stylised floral design is hand painted in white and orange tones onto a deep plum/purple ground and the piece has the model number "5272" in gold to the base. Also on the base is the original plastic stopper.

The piggy bank measures approximately 22cm long, 12cm tall and 8.5cm wide. It's in good condition with just some surface grazes and minor wear from use, but no chips or cracks.

Small Shallow Vintage Wood Dish with Endgrain Finish, Hong Kong

A subtle but very attractive small bowl or dish which was made in Hong Kong, featuring a low profile and rounded square design, and with a beautiful endgrain finish reminiscent of the collaboration between Denby and Digsmed in their "Stone & Teak" range. This is almost certainly teak too and has a very mid-century aura - more than simply functional, this 6-inch (15cm) square form makes a statement all of its own... under-statement, really.

in good condition, with just some minor superficial signs of age use, the bowl has its original label affixed underneath, and has an overall depth of 1 in. (2.5cm).

Vintage Ravensburger Dick Bruna Eskimo 8-piece Wood Tray Jigsaw

As unmistakeable as it is charming, this is a Dick Bruna "Eskimo" jigsaw which was made by Ravensburger and is a simple puzzle for the smaller child. Comprising 8 pieces in a tray style, this typical Bruna illustration should find favour with the larger child and adult.

The puzzle measures approximately 10 in. by 7.5 in., and is in good condition overall with only very minor signs of age or use. There are a couple of small surface marks and pin holes to two of the corners, but otherwise it's good throughout.

Rare 1960s Arthur Wood Pottery Orange and Brown Striped Cat Money Bank

If ceramic cats have nine ceramic lives like their real-world feline counterparts, then this cheerful chap is probably on number nine of those. After suffering a catastrophic travel injury, he arrived at AIP HQ in a manner which can only be described as "not completely intact". Rather than consign him to history (i.e. the bin or to the bottom of plant pots), we set about repairing him, on the basis that he'd managed to live for over 50 years and was still smiling and that deserved to be taken into account.
So, he's not perfect, far from it, but he's got a winning personality despite the misadventures.
He was made by Arthur Wood Pottery and he's a rare thing indeed. You don't see many of these at all. He measures about 20 cm long and about 17cm high (including that wonderful tail). In terms of his faults, he now has quite a few but he's intact and that's the main thing now. Hopefully the significant repairs he has had (see the photos for details) - notably tail reconstruction surgery and re-painting - are good enough to warrant someone re-homing him "as is"...

Vintage Wade “Fern” duo of cup and sandwich plate in red, black and white

A very stylish duo of a sandwich plate and cup made by Wade, in a very 1950s design of red, black and white in the "Fern" pattern. The plate is a truncated slightly oval affair with curved handle-like forms on each end whilst the cup has a deep red interior and sits off-centre in the plate providing room for sandwiches (or biscuits!).

The plate meassures approximately 24cm (9½ in.) in length with a maximum width of approximately 23cm (8¾ in.). The cup has a rim diameter of 9cm (3½ in.) and a height of 6cm (2¼ in.). Both are in good vintage condition with no chips or cracks butthere is some crazing to the glazes as to be expected, and some minor marks/discolouration to the underside of the plate.

Large Original 1970s Chrome Desktop Newton’s Cradle aka “Ballrace” – Loncraine Broxton

A rare opportunity to purchase an original boxed chromed Newton's Cradle. This is the Loncraine Broxton "Ballrace" which made its first appearance in the late 1960s. This one probably dates from the 1970s and is a very good example. Whilst it was originally sold as a kind of novelty item for the executive desktop or the living room, it now has genuine appeal both as a decorative item in itself and as a design piece from its era. In many ways, it might almost be said to be iconic.

This one is in good order cosmetically - just a few signs of age and use and some very minor signs of pitting to the chrome. The box is in good shape too, with minimal wear, considering its age.

Framed Vintage 1990s Selectadisc Record Shop Plastic Bag – Nottingham London

OK, so it might not quite qualify strictly as "vintage" but it certainly feels like a piece of memorabilia from a bye-gone age now. If you were a teenager in Nottingham or its surrounding area in the 1980s or 1990s, then you might immediately recognise this bag. As iconix as the shop fronts which bore the same design, perhaps. This bag dates slightly later than the original Nottingham shop(s), as it include the later Soho London store's details. The same store which featured on the cover of Oasis' 1995 album "(What's The Story) Morning Glory?".

The bag - measuring 34cm by 39cm - has been paired with a pre-owned Sixtrees frame which has a plain white surround and provides a suitable and understated complement to the bag and the record shop branding.

Vintage Mid-Century Modern Stylised Carved Wood Bird Figure

A stunning highly stylised carved wood bird which is believed to date from the Mid-Century period. Most likely teak and probably a long-tailed tit, this is an expertly realised piece with great attention to the grain and to the form. It is typical of mid-century modern stylised decorative wood carving and is a superb and uncommon example of its type.

The bird measures approximately 30cm (12 in.) from tip of the tail to the beak. with a height of 9cm (3½ in.). It is In excellent condition with no chips to the form, just some very minor wear to the flat "base".

Vintage Art Deco Bakelite Lamp Stand

An original and very appealing candlestick-style table lamp stand with Art Deco influences and probably dating from the 1930s. Made from Bakelite which is in excellent condition considering its age, the lamp stand features a stepped circular base with push button switch, and a waisted central column. The top and base have a matching edge design which add subtle elegance.

The lamp stand measures approximately 23cm (9 in.) high (including the bulb holder) and the base has a diameter of 12.5cm (5 in.). Please note: the glass shade pictured is of a later design and is for display only. Should you wish to pair it with the lamp stand, and buy both, please get in touch. This items has not been electrically tested, so please be aware that it requires attention and inspection before use. There is a slight wobble to the top of the lamp stand where the bulb holder fits, but this should be an easy fix and doesn't affect the lamp in normal use.

Teak and Mother of Pearl Wall Clock by George Sneed for Heal’s

Made by George Sneed and sold through Heal's department store, this is a handsome and very minimalist wall clock crafted from teak wood with mother of pearl inlays. The simple design of the face coupled with the deep-sided nature of the clock and the use of endgrain patterning makes it very effective and appealing on the wall, and very much in-keeping with a mid-century aesthetic.

The clock face measures approximately 21.5cm (8½ in.) whilst the rear measures slightly wider at 22.5 cm (just under 9 in.), giving it a slightly tapering profile. The clock has a depth of 5cm (2 in.). A recess in the rear houses the French-made "Romatic" quarts movement which is powered by a single "C" size battery and has a an adjuster for the time and a setting to finesse the speed of the clock. An aluminium plate sits over the top of the movement. Also to the rear is a maker's stamp and metal hanging plate.

This particular example is in good condition aside from a few defects. There are some minor signs of age and wear and tear throughout, including a few "nibbles" to edges and some minor surface loss and very slight deformation to the minute hand. It is likely there was a cap of some kind on the barrel (above the minute hand) which is no longer present. Finally, there is a hairline split to the wood from approximately 9.30 on the clock horizontally. This isn't immediately noticeable and appears unlikely to worsen. At some point in the clock's history it has been glued and there is the potential to repeat this repair should the need arise. At is stands though, these defects don't detract from the undoubted good looks of this clock so it has been left alone and is sold "as is".
