Vintage 1980 Toshiba CR-3000 Stereo Digital Clock Radio

Looking rather like a black plastic "Toblerone" packet, this is the Toshiba CR-3000 Stereo Digital Clock Radio, which dates from 1980. No surprises there - the glossy black finish, minimalism, and angular shapes are typical of that cross-over from space-age design to the 1980s. In many respects it's a fairly standard electronic clock radio, aside from the design, but there are some interesting features which set it apart too. First of all, that long design means that the stereo speakers do indeed have some spread to them and, what's more, two inputs on the left-hand side of the unit allows for further speakers to be added to enhance the sound. All of the controls are very neatly located on the top edge of the unit in a slightly recessed groover or are to the rear on the sloping surface, which means the front it gloriously uncluttered - just the two speakers and the clock and tuner displays. If you're a fan of sleek and stylish design then it ticks all the boxes.

This unit is in very good condition overall. There are, as to be expected, signs of use - notably some marks to the rear and superficial scratches to the high-gloss front, but otherwise the plastics are in very good condition, no chips or cracks. As a bonus, the original box and instructions are present, albeit the former has more obvious signs of age and wear.

The unit measures approximately 42cm long with a height of 5cm and a depth of 6cm (16.5 in., 2 in. and 2½ in. respectively).

Toshiba CR1100 FM-AM Electronic Clock Radio Black Red LED Display

Looking something akin to a glossy black wedge, this is the highly unusual Toshiba CR1100, which is a fairly standard digital clock radio with red LED display, except for those looks. It's probably the clock radio that Darth Vader would have by his bedside on the Death Star! You'll probably either love it or hate it, but you can't deny that it's bold and distinctive.

All the usual features are there, but the way in which they are presented is different: snooze and sleep functions, dimmable display, two-band radio, volume and tone dials, wake to alarm or radio. So it's really all about the appearance. Personally, I feel that photographs don't fully reflect how good this looks and don't really do it justice.

In good overall visual condition, notwithstanding that there are minor superficial scratches and signs of wear throughout (around the front panel function selector, for example), and that the piano black finish is prone to show up marks anyway. It has been function-tested and is currently on a UK three-pin plug.

White Toshiba FM/AM Flip Clock Radio RC-803F

One of the most stylish and instantly recognisable flip clocks, this is the Toshiba RC-803F. With more than a hint of space-age design, this flip clock probably doesn't need too many words of description - the photos will do most of the talking! But, let's start with that shape - a sloping front dominated by a full face display with massively rounded corners, with the curves leading into a flattened pill shape with distinctive and almost over-sized silver coloured knobs on either side for clock/alarm adjustment and radio tuning. Also on the front are controls for tone, volume, mode and radio band, leaving only the sleep control in a recessed hollow on the top of the unit. The rest of the top is dominated by the aforementioned curves and the speaker grille. It's a bold design and it works beautifully.

In very good cosmetic condition and fully working. Sensible offers are invited for this highly sought after - and perhaps now worthy of the term "iconic" - item.
