The lamp does have a defect - there's a dent to the shade, an almost flat spot where it has had an impact of some kind - and although it is a shame, it does not detract too much from the look of the lamp and is not in an immediately obvious location. The high reflectivity of the chrome shape also helps to distract. The base is composed of a black enamelled cast metal with a plastic underside and has a white, solid feeling swtich.
Otherwise, the lamp is in good condition, with only minor signs of age and wear.  It measures approximately 48cm (19 in.) in height with the gooseneck fully extended, of which 18cm (7 in.) is the rubberised gooseneck portion. The base has an approximate diameter of 15cm (6 in.) and a depth of 3.5cm (1½ in.). The ball shade has an opening of 11cm (4¼ in.) and an overall diameter of approximately 14cm (5½ in.).  It takes a standard bayonet bulb ftting.

The lamp measures approximately 40cm in height. with the base being approximately 8cm by 9cm.
This one is in good working condition with a caveat. The plastic fixture which attaches the shade to the armature has been re-glued. It feels sound and works as it should, but it should be pointed out that there has been a repair. Ultimately perhaps a new plastic part might be needed. Otherwise, there are minor superficial grazes to the plastics as to be expected from an item of this age and use.

The metal telescopic stem allows for adjustability of length from approximately 13cm to 37cm and features a rotating top section to allow the shade to be positioned in the required direction. This flexibility is emphasised by an additional angle adjustment on the shade itself for further positioning.

The sturdy base (approximately 12cm x 8cm x 5cm) is predominately plastic with a slight texture and houses a reassuringly solid switch and a hinge allowing the telescopic stem to be angled from the vertical to just a few degrees above the horizontal. The two part shade is approximately 8cm in diameter around its middle with an opening of about 5cm and is vented to the rear. The lamp takes a standard small bayonet B15 bulb - a "pygmy" size bulb looks best in conjunction with it.

The vase has no chips or cracks and is presented in excellent condition. The vase measures approximately 12cm (4¾ in.) in height with the "ball" section approximately 9cm (3½ in) of that. The vase is 11cm (4¼ in.) at its widest, with a rim measuring 6.5 cm (2½ in.) in diameter and a base 4.5 cm (1¾ in.) in diameter.

Our "Cyclops" desk or shelf lamp is a variant on the eyeball lamp of the era, with the orange spherical enamelled metal shade section housed inside a square smoked acrylic box. The shade rotates on a central axis lockable via the two side nuts.  The colour and shape combinations of the semi-transparent housing and the shade makes this lamp as interesting when switched off as it is when illuminated. The lamp features an original inline switch.

In good condition with only very minor signs of wear and age this lamp is increasingly uncommon and highly desirable for a mid-century inspired environment.

Ours has signs of age and wear - particularly to the feet which have some fading and usage marks - which are reassuringly authentic. There's no sign of the feet being re-painted, which we think is preferable to an over-the-top paint job! If you want a perfect item, please don't buy an original and used one ;)

The magazine rack measures 29cm (11½ in.) across, is 39cm (15½ in.) high at its maximum and has a depth of 25 cm (10 in.)
