A novelty item (well, items) from the 1950s which would probably have been a pocket-money toy, possibly even bought from a vending machine, these are a pair of alka-seltzer powered miniature toy boats. There's not much more to be said about them really, except that presumably they still work as per the instructions provided.

Vintage Wood-handled Aluminium Mechanic’s Workshop Inspection Lamp

A very unusual vintage handheld lamp which was most likely used in a workshop or garage for inspections. Consisting of an aluminium shade with a wood handle, this item which probably dates from or before the 1950s but would make an nteresting and quirky piece of lighting now.

The original cabling has been replaced with a generous length (3m) of suitable braided neutral-coloured alternative and the lamp has been tested as working. It has an unusual rotating switch for turning the light on and off. There is wear throughout but both the metal shade and the wood handle have been sensitively restored to retain the character of the lamp.

The lamp has an oveall length of 30cm (12 in.|), the shade rim has a diameter of 19cm (7½ in.) and a depth of 18cm (7 in.), whilst the handle is approximately 17cm (6¾ in.) in length.

Stylish 1950s Wade “Woodmist” Trio of Cup, Saucer and Sideplate

A super stylish modern trio in the "Woodmist" design by Wade which has a classic combination of black, grey and orange and abstracted floral pattern which just shouts its origins in the 1950s. In excellent condition and a hard-to-find combination these days, this trio of cup, saucer and sideplate just evokes the era superbly.

For reference, the sideplate is approximately 15cm (6 in.) in diameter. No chips or cracks, just some minor crazing as to be expected of items of this age.

Vintage Wade “Fern” duo of cup and sandwich plate in red, black and white

A very stylish duo of a sandwich plate and cup made by Wade, in a very 1950s design of red, black and white in the "Fern" pattern. The plate is a truncated slightly oval affair with curved handle-like forms on each end whilst the cup has a deep red interior and sits off-centre in the plate providing room for sandwiches (or biscuits!).

The plate meassures approximately 24cm (9½ in.) in length with a maximum width of approximately 23cm (8¾ in.). The cup has a rim diameter of 9cm (3½ in.) and a height of 6cm (2¼ in.). Both are in good vintage condition with no chips or cracks butthere is some crazing to the glazes as to be expected, and some minor marks/discolouration to the underside of the plate.

1950s Vintage “Rolinx” tambour design pencil case in green and cream plastic

A rare and unusual pencil box, made by Rolinx and of an early plastic construction, with a very clever tambour design. Pushing the roll top open reveals the top layer of the pencil box with various sections providing room for erasers and the like. Pushing the lid all the way to the end until it clicks then opens a door which reveals access to the lower layer, where pens and pencils are stored. It all works perfectly and the box is nice and secure when the lid latches in place.

Cosmetically, the box is in pretty good shape too. As an early plastic the colouring isn't totally even throughout and there are the remnants of a sticker on the side, but otherwiis it's good - no chips or crack, just some general signs of age and wear. It measures approximately 21.5cm long by 10cm wide with a height of 4cm (8½ in., 4 in., and 1½ in. respectively).

Vintage Gooseneck Desk Lamp in Gold with Perforated Shade

An unusual gooseneck desk lamp finished in a pale gold tone with brass fixtures, which has a distinctively-shaped base and perforated shade. Most likely dating from the 1950s - although the maker is unknown, its origins are probably Continental Europe, based on the styling.
It's in good condition overall with some minor signs of both age and wear, but nothing which detracts - quite the opposite in many ways. We've added a subtle soft neoprene pad to the underside of the base, to protect surfaces when in use, but it's otherwise untampered with.

The lamp measures approximately 40 cm ( 16 in.) high with the neck fully extended. The base measures approximately 14cm (5½ in.) long, with a maximum width of 12.5cm (5 in.), and a height of 1.5cm (1 in.)

A pair of Mid-Century brass and black metal double-coned lamp bases

A very stylish pair of Mid-Century brass and black metal lamp stands with distinctive conical bases, possibly of German origin and probably dating from the 1950s. Each lamp stands features a larger black metal cone base housing the push-button switch, with a brass vertical, and then a smaller inverted cone leading to the brass bulb holder. All in all, a very unusual and eye-catching design.

The stands have a removable base for access to the wiring. This is important to note, as these require some additional work to make them usable. They are sold "as is". Each measures approximately 22cm (8¾ in.) in height from the base to the bulb holder, with the bases having a diameter of just under 10cm (4 in.). The lower cone has a height of 8.5cm (3¼ in.) whilst the upper cone is slightly bigger at 9.5cm (8¾ in.)

Please note, due to the nature of these items and their "as found" condition, it is the buyer's responsibility to ensure that they are rewired and safety checked prior to use.

Vintage 1950s Maclamp in gold with wooden arms designed by Terence Conran for Habitat

A design classic, this is the Maclamp designed by Terence Conran for Habitat. This is the earlier version of the lamp with full wood armatures (not plastic ones as per later models) and wingnut adjusters and dates from the 1950s. This particular one has original gold painted metal shade and base and is in almost untampered condition.

The wood arms have been gently oiled to bring out their original colour. One of the lower arms has what appears to be a burn mark on it, but barring that, they are in good solid condition as are the wingnuts and metal fixtures. The metal shade bracket is slightly misshapened, but the shade itself has kept its shape and only has a few minor grazes to show for it's 60+ years of age and use, and the base is in similar condition. The bulb holder has been replaced like-for-like.

A good example of an iconic lamp and increasingly difficult to find in original condition. As with all electrical products, buyers are urged to have the lamp inspected and safety-checked prior to installation.

1950s Scheurich Speckled Ceramic Vase in Black, Yellow, Blue and Red

A very attractive and rare 1950s vase made by Scheurich. The exterior features a grey speckled ground, incised stripes in blue, red, and yellow, and a three-sided, slightly irregular, form which is a great example typical of the era. The interior is a contrasing white. Measuring approximately 20cm (8 in.) in height, the vase has a truncated sloping rim, and contrasting hand-decorated wavy gold lines within flat black stripes to complete the look. The makers mark is worn and not readily discernible but we have identified it as a product of Scheurich.

The vase is in very good condition with no chips or cracks - and it would make a stunning addition to a mid-century home or as a statement piece in a more modern environment.

Vintage 1950s B.O.E. Pale Blue/Grey Wing Desk Tube Lamp

A classic 1950s era desk lamp with a fluorescent tube bulb and suitably retro shape and colour, a pale grey which has a hint of blue to it in certain lights with white square switch and shade interior. The base also provides room for some detailing which has an automotive or aeronautic feel to it. The partial gooseneck allows for adjustment of the wing which sits at a practical height for desk work or more subtle lighting.

Made by B.O.E. the lamp is in good vintage condition. There are minor superficial imperfections to both the shade and the base and blemishes to the paintwork, but overall it's cosmetically sound considering its age. Most importantly, that precious wing hasn't suffered any deformations or dents!

The lamp in normal use stands at approximately 35cm (14 in.) high with the solid part of the neck and base making up about 17cm (6¾ in,) of that. The wing measures approximately 40cm (16 in.) across with a depth of 9cm (3½ in.). The tube is a standard T4 or T5 diameter with bipin (two pin) connectors.
