Vintage 1970s Japanese Rhythm Alarm Clock in Light Mushroom Colour

With its elliptical face and curvaceous body, this Rhythm 2 Jewels Alarm clock presents a handsome slice of 1970s design. It would be going too far, perhaps, to call it space age, and also too far, perhaps, to call it minimalist, but it comes close on both counts. The clock face is a metallic bronze-purple colour depending on the angle of the light and there are no digits on it, just metallic pieces with orange detailing. There are flourescent sections to the hour and minute hands and a slim minute hand, as well as alarm time indicator. The clock is in working order and has a pleasant tick which is certainly audible (just in case you require or prefer a silent timepiece). Around the back of the clock are knobs to set the time and the alarm, as well as an adjuster for the accuracy of the clock, and a red push button which serves to activate or deactivate the alarm. The alarm itself is a good old-fashioned ringer which is effective.

The clock measures approximately 14.5 cm (5½ in.) at its widest point, with a height of around 12 cm (4¾ in.) and a depth of 7.5cm (3 in.). It's presented in mostly very good cosmetic condition - the chrome is nice and clean, the body is good aside from a small blemish on the left hand side (see photos), and there's a little bit of dust inside the face.

Vintage Japanese “Sunlight” pen with built-in battery powered light

An unusual and well-made pen with a twist, literally - turn the nurled end of the Sunlight pen's barrel and the clear section of the pen lights up. The light is battery-powered (the battery is in the main part of the barrel) and the bulb still works. A small hole in the barrel indicates whether the light is on whilst the cap is in place over it. The pen refill doesn't seem to offer any ink so this is probably more of a curio than a functioning writing implement. It may be remediable. The pen is approximately 14cm in length (5½ in.) and takes a "AAA" size battery.

Vintage Sarome “Tabic” Table Lighter in Black, Aluminium and Chrome, 1960s

A vintage 1960s "Tabic" table lighter made by Sarome and presented in a black and aluminium colour scheme with chrome parts. It's a lighter, yes, but it's really all about that very distinctive sixties look, and this item makes for a very interesting decorative object in its own right.
Measuring approximately 14cm high (5½ in.) and with a basic diameter of 6.5cm (2½ in.), the lighter is in good condition considering age and use. There is some minor surface wear to the black enamel and wear to the base, as well as to the underside of the aluminium sections, but overall it is in good shape. As far as functionality is concerned, it sparks, but has not been tested beyond that.

Vintage Tinplate Clockwork Mouse (No. 2094) made in Japan by Yone

A very charming tinplate clockwork toy of a mouse, made in Japan by the manufactures Yone. This is model no. 2094 of which there are several variations which made it to marker. Some of these are named "Scurry Mouse" and some are "Wonder Mouse". This one is in full working order - once wound up and released, the toy travels rather rapidly across the floor (a smooth surface ideally), spins somewhat randomly and then travels away in whichever direction it is facing. It's not a "bump and go" action - it simply repeats this dart and rotation movement until it runs out of steam. The mouse measures just under 9cm (3½ in.) from nose to base of tail, with the tail approximately 8cm (3¼ in.) in length.

It's in good used and vintage condition with a few scratches as to be expected, and the mechanism has been cleaned and made good internally. Additionally, this one was missing its original ears so we have "manufactured" our own replacements which we think make a good fit. The originals seem to have been some kind of thin plastic, but these new ones are of a softer neoprene/felt material and are also a good match for his/her tail. He or she seems pretty happy with them anyway...

Vintage Large Kaleidoscope-style Japanese Octascope

Looking rather like a traditional kaleidoscope, the Japanese-made Octascape is a vintage toy which splits the view through the tube via a glass prism into eight reflected sections. This gives a kaleidoscopic-style experience to the viewer of whatever they are looking at - there are no viewable materials inside the tube itself. It's a classic colourful toy in good condition (although one end of the box is missing) and it is fully working. This is the larger of the two "Octascope" versions which are to be found out in the wild, the "tube" measuring almost 20cm (8 in.) long.

Vintage Hitachi Moon Light Model 506 Wing Style Desk Lamp 1966

A "wing" style fluorescent tube desk lamp with one of the most distinctive and more attractive bases for a lamp of this type, this is the Hitachi "Moon Light" a.k.a. Model 506 - this one made in 1966. The wing shade housing the tube is white whilst much is made of the heavy base with a glossy black finish to the square shape, the surface of which comprises a slightly raised circular silver metallic piece with "Hitachi" branding in the middle of it, and a white push button switch opposite the gooseneck upright. It's rather good and rather unusual, and is very much the styling of its time.

This particular one has some wear and tear to the base - notably to the corners of the black box and some scuffing to the silver - and has suffered damage to part of its shade plastics (to the left hand side corner and edge). At some point in the past the latter damage has been given some repair, including remodelling and a respray (there are some signs of a green paint, probably also not original). It's not perfect by any mean, but it's also not too noticeable: certainly not bad enough to warrant being re-done and risk more damage. The lamp has been left "as is" because the overall look and the striking styling of the lamp absolutely overwhelms these shortcomings, in least in our opinion. Reasonable offers are invited for this item in its current state.

The lamp shade measures apprximately 50cm (20 in.) across and 8cm (3 in.) deep, with a height of 4cm (1½ in.) - all measurements are maximums. The base is approximately 13 cm (5 in.) square with a height of 4cm (1½ in.). The fixed part of the stand has a height of about 22cm (9 in.), whilst the gooseneck has an extended length of 14cm (6cm).

White Panasonic RC-6003B AM/FM Digital Flip Clock Radio

Perhaps not the most stylish of the Panasonic flip clocks or flip clock radios, but nonetheless having a look all of its own, this is the RC-6003B model which dates from the mid-1970s. Presented in a white plastic body with the major part of the front in black, the most immediate aesthetic novelty is the contrasting appearance of the sides: the left hand side of the body nearest to the clock display is given a generous curved shape (which is reflected in the shape of the display) whilst the right hand side is slightly scooped out and juts forward and is abruptly squared off. It's different...

The unit has all of the basic features one would hope for: a good clear display and sound, a two-band (AM/FM) radio, sleep mode, etc. This one is fully functional and is in good cosmetic condition considering it's over 45 years old now. Also included with this unit is the original instruction manual. The RC-6003B measures approximately 28cm by 10cm by 15cm (11 in. x 4 in. x 6 in.) and is fitted with a UK three-pin wall plug.

Vintage Woodgrain Copal Model 229 Flip Clock Alarm with Day Display

A very desirable Copal Model 229 Flip Clock with Alarm and day display, made in Japan and dating from the 1970s. In good working condition with a "buzzer" alarm and woodgrain plastic casing with no cracks to the display and with all knobs and dials intact. In common with most Japanese flip clocks, this uses the 24-hour format for time display and alarm setting.

In very good cosmetic condition with only minimal signs of age and use. Functionally, the alarm and clock work as they should, though as with many of these clocks of the period there are occasions when the hour number doesn't flip immediately on the hour but rights itself after a few minutes. The unit measures approximately 18cm by 9cm by 9cm when in use and is supplied with a UK three-pin style plug. We recommend customers perform their own PAT tests on electrical appliances before use.

White Toshiba FM/AM Flip Clock Radio RC-803F

One of the most stylish and instantly recognisable flip clocks, this is the Toshiba RC-803F. With more than a hint of space-age design, this flip clock probably doesn't need too many words of description - the photos will do most of the talking! But, let's start with that shape - a sloping front dominated by a full face display with massively rounded corners, with the curves leading into a flattened pill shape with distinctive and almost over-sized silver coloured knobs on either side for clock/alarm adjustment and radio tuning. Also on the front are controls for tone, volume, mode and radio band, leaving only the sleep control in a recessed hollow on the top of the unit. The rest of the top is dominated by the aforementioned curves and the speaker grille. It's a bold design and it works beautifully.

In very good cosmetic condition and fully working. Sensible offers are invited for this highly sought after - and perhaps now worthy of the term "iconic" - item.

Orange Copal Model 227 24-hour Flip Clock with alarm

One of the smaller variants made by the Japanese company Copal, this model 227 flip clock is a perfect bedside companion. This particular item, in a classic orange, is presented in excellent working and aesthetic order. The flip clock is the 24-hour model with buzzer alarm (activated by the button to the back right of the unit) and it measures a rather diminutive 15cm (6 in.) by 9cm (3½ in.) by 7cm (2¾ in.) - in terms of width, depth, and height respectively. This one is almost silent in operaton, with only very gentle motor noise and pleasing "flipping" sound, and it also has a good, clear display and illumination.

The flip clock runs at 180-260V and has a cable of approximately 1.8m (70 in.) and is currently fitted with a UK three-pin plug. The casing is in very good condition with no chips or cracks, and only minor superficial signs of use with the odd graze to the plastics to note.
