Large Vintage Rough Glazed Stoneware Swan Ink Bottle

£17.50

A large (24 cm / 9½ in. high) stoneware bottle which originally contained Swan Ink and probably dates from the first half of the 20th Century.  The bottle retains a partial label from which it can be ascertained that this once contained blue ink “made by the swan pen people”. A piece with lots of character, we think, with an interesting speckled ground, rough glaze and some very dried ink marks.

Possibly re-purposable as a vase or simple as a decorative object, the bottle has stood the test of time well and has no chips or cracks and is in good overall condition. There is no maker’s mark but the bottle was possibly made by Lovatt Langley Mill who were well known for this kind of container and stoneware finish. The diameter of the bottle is 11cm (4¼ in.) at its maximum, with the cylindrical shape of the body being 19cm (7½ in.)
