Vintage German Springerle or Confectionary Mould

£8.50

Originally a wax mould used when making traditional German shortbread biscuits or as a patterning for marzipan, this now makes a very different kind of decorative object.  It was made by J & G Roscher of Germany – date unknown but likely before or around the time of the Second World War – and features pastoral and other symbolic images on its surface.

Measuring 16.5cm by 10cm by 1.5cm (6½ in. by 4 in. by ½ in.) the mould is in reasonable condition, but due to its material there are some signs of distortion and warping.  We think that all adds to its character and appeal. The mould has a string for wall hanging.
