Space Age 1970s “Dice” Lampshade by Uffe Gustav Schiøler for Hoyrup Denmark/IKEA

A lampshade which has a pedigree surpassing its unprepossessing looks, this is the “Dice” Lampshade designed by Uffe Gustav Schiøler for Hoyrup of Denmark and then acquired and later sold by IKEA. A 19cm rounded cube of plastic with circular semi-opaque panels which protrude slightly. This one is in a suitably 1970s shade of orange and is the pendant shade variation – there were desk / table lamp versions as well.

There are some minor aspects of the condition which should be noted, principally that the top curved white panel with the ring for the bulb holder is not as even as it might be. It’s secure but has deformed, and although it would most likely be out of sight in normal use, the potential buyer should be aware of it. Also to the top is a hairline crack to the orange plastic – it doesn’t feel like it’s a worry structurally and there’s no sense of becoming worse. Again, it is not noticeable in ordinary use.

The “spider” ring (for fitting the bulb holder) is not original but is a good fit for the lamp. Otherwise, the lamp is in good shape with only minor superficial surface scratches as to be expected of an item of some age.

Please note, the sale is for the shade and spider ring only. No wiring or buibholder is supplied.
